Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 05, 2008 1:13 pm Hi
This is my bathroom. I will rent my house out and I am looking to modernise it a bit before renting it. I am trying to do it with as economically as possible. The vanity is new and the shower screen is new. I am getting the rest of the house tiled so I will get the floor tiled over those brown tiles. As for the tiles on the shower wall and around the bath...... A tiler who gave me a quote advised just to leave them. Tiling over them wasnt really an easy option and removing them could damage the panels behind apparently. My issue is getting floor tiles that wont clash with the lemon-sorbet coloured tiles of the shower and bath. I wanted to put white ones on the floor but I was advised against going white. I thought about just painting over the tiles around the bath and the sink splashback. Is that feasible? I will put up a new light. I will paint the walls Put up wooden blinds and restain the window frames. The bath tap outlet is a different colour to the taps. I could buy a new set of taps and spout couldnt I? Please look at the photos and provide any input/suggestions/opinions. Thankyou for your help. Re: Cheap bathroom reno - advice wanted see photos 2Oct 05, 2008 1:34 pm Aaah good old 70's tiles. We have these in our rental. They are hideous.
TBH, I actually think it doesn't look too bad for an old bathroom. Once you retile the bathroom when you do the rest of the house, I really think it's fine. Obviously it's not flashy and modern, but it's clean, does the job, the vanity and showers both look new... I think tenants would be pretty happy with that Re: Cheap bathroom reno - advice wanted see photos 3Oct 05, 2008 11:48 pm I know you've been recommended not to do white floor tiles, but I think they would freshen and brighten the bathroom more than anything else would.
The other things to do would be to replace the bath tap with a chrome one and also replace the towel rail with a modern chrome one. A quick lick of paint on the walls and it will look much better. Judie Re: Cheap bathroom reno - advice wanted see photos 4Oct 06, 2008 8:08 am Can I suggest that as little as possible would be the best if your going to rent. Unless your renting at the top end of the market, tenants, oddly enough, generally use the bathroom to wash. Who cares if the tiles are $10 per metre or $100 per metre.
Another thing to consider, with a tiled shower base, the cost of replacement can blow out to over $10,000 with a waterproof membrane required over the whole (on a timber floor) and up the walls. Good luck with the reno - I would love to be kept in the loop on the progress. Re: Cheap bathroom reno - advice wanted see photos 5Oct 06, 2008 3:17 pm I'm of the opionion it's fine as a rental.
If anything, you could lay some of the vinyl that is designed to lay on top of tiles for the floors. Not in he shower. Lick of paint and the taps and shower rail if you really thinks it'sworth it.
