Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Sep 20, 2020 2:57 pm hey guys, question about needed floor. we are trying to convert a large laundary room in the house to a full bath + shower + toilet + vanity. the floor there is old timber original. we got a few opinions - one said remove completely floor and put fibre cement or the comressed cement sheets, other suggested just put those on top and others suggested just screed the floor two coats. waterproofing in all cases ofcourse after that step. what is the best way forward for this? cheers and thanks Re: bathroom reno floor 2Sep 21, 2020 3:03 pm Worst thing to do is cover up timber floor if used for a wet area it will cost you money in the long run. Do it right and rip up floor and lay down fibre cement sheets that are 18mm min thickness and go from there. You could also put fall in the floor and design the plumbing correctly using grate drains and you will not have to screed at all like they have showed on the block lately Re: bathroom reno floor 3Sep 22, 2020 12:49 pm As per what Splashers says above. I hear of lots of people doing a cheap job by just going over the top of what is already there and basically covering up any possible pre-existing faults then complaining later when things ( inevitably ) go wrong. Rip it up back to floor joists and go again. I would also do the same regarding the walls and strip back to bare studs. You can then move any plumbing to where you want as per a stripped floor. Stewie Hello It is good to have a planned bathroom reno to suit your budget and design, living for 10 years I think you need a bathtub 4 10374 Possibly both depending on the sizing. Idea of working from the centre is that you dont have a 20mm thin tile at one end and a 400mm at the other end. A quick search on… 3 8418 This is a very tight fit, I'm not sure if you'll be able to achieve what you've described. Would you consider accessing the separate toilet from the laundry? If so maybe… 1 11254 |
