Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jul 21, 2020 11:14 am We've got an old Brivis ducted heating unit outside. Has had a couple of issues recently...last year I had to replace the thermocouple as the pilot kept going out. It started happening again on the weekend so I replaced the thermocouple again, but this time around it hasn't made any difference. Spoke to a heating bloke and he said our unit (20+ years old) would be almost impossible to fix at this point. He mentioned the newer Brivis Buffalo 3 BX320 and the BX520. Have read some reviews online and they're not exactly complimentary! Our current Brivis heater, when working, is great. Heats our house up fairly quickly (3 bedroom, lounge, family and kitchen old Victorian brick) and works well with our Siemens programmable thermostat. I don't really want to spend however much I'll end up spending, for an inferior unit. I want it to heat up quickly and also have a fully programmable thermostat with timer etc. So I guess my questions are...is there anyone that thinks my current unit may be salvageable? If not, are these newer Brivis units any good? Or any other recommendations? Re: Old Brivis ducted heater seems dead...advice needed. 3Jul 28, 2020 3:15 pm Well I'm probably posting to nobody...but in case anyone is interested... I got a bloke out today...ex Brivis tech. Had a bit of a play around...found that some of the shale corrosion from the copper inlet pipe had found it's way into the main valve that regulates gas flow. The flame on the pilot wasn't intense enough to stay on once the knob was turned. So he gave that a good clean...replaced the el cheapo Bunnings thermocouple with a proper Brivis thermocouple and all was fixed. The unit works perfectly again! Happy days. WA has a particular way of building and unfortunately that's the way a large amount of sills are finished. 3 4731 |
