Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Mar 16, 2020 9:43 pm Hi We are about to embark on major renovations and an extension. Part of the process is to remove the old gas ducted heating and replace it with a hydronic heating system using panels. What cooling options have others installed with hydronic heating? Noting we have cathedral ceilings and no roof space for evap, we live in Canberra. The a/c person is recommending ducted as a split system won’t be sufficient for the space. I’m reluctant to go ducted as it’s seems a waste to spend money on two heating systems. I don’t want ducted heating as I don’t think it’s a great heat and creates lots of dust etc Thanks Re: Hydronic heating panels - what cooling options? 2Mar 16, 2020 10:45 pm NatLH Hi We are about to embark on major renovations and an extension. An electric heat pump is our preference but we could go gas. We have solar panels that are under the old rebate scheme so it makes sense for us to use electric A heat pump can cool as well as heat. As you suggest, electricity is preferable to gas these days, as you can produce your own electricity but cannot produce your own gas. Which supplier are you thinking of in the ACT? Edit: the difficulty you have is that you are using panels instead of in-floor. Panels are inefficient. Re: Hydronic heating panels - what cooling options? 5Mar 17, 2020 1:58 pm Do you mean supplier of the hydronic? The builder is organising this but I believe it’s Branco. We can’t go underfloor as we are on bearers and joists with a solid timber floor or carpet. Re: Hydronic heating panels - what cooling options? 7May 03, 2020 1:07 pm I would go and select in slab hydronic with electrical boiler any time now. It only needs to heat water up to 40 degrees and pretty rarely as the slab conserves the energy due to its thermal mass and insulation. It is just the most efficient way to heat the house up known to date. Full stop. Do not insulate between your floors, so the heated air can rise up and warm up your upper floor bedrooms too. But you would have to invest into good ceiling and under/around slab insulation. Re: Hydronic heating panels - what cooling options? 9May 20, 2020 11:15 pm Radiator panels are great. I have them for 4 years and I'm always comfy with 22 degrees in every room every minute and loving it. I'm using SIME gas boiler as a heating supply. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good hydronic in slab heating speacialist who may be able to help me with an existing system and wether or not it may need a seperator… 0 4883 Currently renovating, and our main lounge is 5m x 10m, with a cathedral roof peaking at 6.5m high.
