Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Sep 26, 2008 9:44 pm Like many people who have built a house recently we have a solar hot water panel and an instantaneous gas water heater that comes into play when the sun don't shine.
Our instantaneous gas water heater is a Chromagen unit which we learnt today is capable of delivering 26 litres of hot water per minute. Apparently this is enough to run 2 showers at once if required. Some other builders install a unit from the same manufacturer that only delivers 18 litres per minute, and could result in feeling a bit of cold water in the shower when a tap is turned on. I just though I'd post this as a prompt for those about to build to consider the capacity of their booster units to see if it meets their requirements. Geoff - Decophile. Re: Solar hot water systems with instantaneous gas booster 2Sep 26, 2008 9:59 pm Oh, our builder provided 20litre continuous flow, i was wondering what that mean... looks like it is too late for me to change now since i am about to start building Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: Solar hot water systems with instantaneous gas booster 4Sep 27, 2008 11:44 am my builder is installing a dux solar sunpro 305 to our house.. I was concerned a 170 litre tank would be too small after reading your post above but I just went out and look at my current hot water system. It is a aquamax 205 which is 155litre. You add 135litres to that for first hour as both can heat 135litres an hour (dux with gas backup).
So the dux I am having installed can hold 15 litres more and it is still main pressured. I have had 6 people in my house all having showers within a two hour timeslot using both showers (both with hi-flow shower heads) and have never run out of hot water with my aquamax. The only thing is the pressure is a bit lower with both showers going but still full hot water temp. So by those estimations my new system should do the job pretty well and be cheaper!! Its OK to change your HWS 5Sep 29, 2008 5:16 pm I am sure if you ask your builder nicely they'll change your hot water system for you.
Go for a evacuated tube solar unit too, they are much more efficient than flat plate, especially in 'non-summer' seasons I'll show you how to keep your new home betwen 15 and 26 degrees celcius all year round - in your buget - GUARANTEED! www.sunrisehomes.net.au Re: Its OK to change your HWS 6Sep 29, 2008 7:34 pm libechacos I am sure if you ask your builder nicely they'll change your hot water system for you. Looks like a good system, but my understanding is that evacuated tubes with gas back up are the better units.
