Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Aug 11, 2018 8:03 pm Hi All, We are looking at heating and cooling for our new double storey build (with flat roof). Due to our facade design, we have a generous 600mm height cavity (separating ground and first floor) for a ducted system. For the moment, we are looking at a reverse cycle air conditioner. The ground floor will have a ceiling vent, however for the first floor, is it a good idea to have a floor vent, when heating and cooling? Or should we install a seperate ducted system within our first floor ceiling cavity (also 600mm in height) to handle the heating and cooling for first floor only? Hope I made sense? Regards. Re: Ducted heating floor vents (first floor) 2Aug 14, 2018 9:39 pm Floor discharge registers will work much better for heating as the natural effect of heat rising will assist to bring the air up. In cooling as cool air tends to fall, return air placement is very important as you could run the risk of the conditioned air pooling around your feet and not conditioning above that. hth Re: Ducted heating floor vents (first floor) 4Aug 15, 2018 12:09 am Sorry I was a bit vague in my reply above. The pooling air around your feet will occur only upstairs but is also dependent on the location of your return air grille. You do realize if you close off the registers upstairs you'll have no cooling at all and generally upstairs is warmer than ground floor due to heat rising. Re: Ducted heating floor vents (first floor) 5Aug 15, 2018 10:28 pm We are having ducted cooling in the first storey ceiling and ducted cooling/ heating in the ground floor ceiling, except we are considering to have floor discharge registers on the first storey, just for heating only, but will be closed when cooling is activated for ground floor. retail its around double the price of a similar sized actron/dakin system from memory, They are excellent systems though. But with how builder gouge on AC/heating, you… 4 13746 Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 7259 Hi all, sorting out the ducted air con for a 350sqm double story house. Does this placement sound reasonable to you? Also, I plan to have 6 zones I think.
