Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation Re: Insulation 2May 11, 2018 9:51 am Well it would be, but you'd have to remove the batts that are already there, avoid and navigate around all the duct work if you have heating and cooling in the roof, and make sure you understand how to place the batts around down lights (they may need clearance around them...I know the old down lights did, not sure about LED though). Not sure that it is worth all that manual labour. Our upgrade to R4.5 batts was about 2k. Would it be as simple as buying more batts and placing them ontop? Hi Gi We had done during the build in the ceiling - glad we did, our inspector had problems checking the roof space to make sure it was all done due to all the air con tubes etc, a very tight fit. Not sure how our Electrician is going to navigate it all next week to do our lighting!!!! We did the wall Insulation ourself at frame stage though. Re: Insulation 4May 11, 2018 3:15 pm Recommended level of roof insulation in NSW varies from 4.1 to 6.3. Batts placed on top of the batts will be loose, batts placed in between ceiling joists will be having thermal bridging due to the joists. In either scenario the real level of your roof insulation will be 30%-50% lower than calculated. You would need to consider either thick blanket-type insulation (better with reflective foil, e.g. Knauf Earthwool blanket) or use rigid EPS/XPS panels on top of the joists (more expensive, but they can also form a structural floor for your attic, so you can use it or parts of it as storage) or use a combination of the first two together with more tight sprayable insulation sprayed between ceiling joists such as Jet Stream MAX (but wood thermal bridging will still be reducing effective R by 20-25%). Jet Stream spraying with thicker level can be also done to the roof area itself once the plaster is fixed, but as long as your downlights are properly isolated. No we installed the R4.0 Re: Insulation 7Jun 06, 2018 8:12 pm From what i was told, you'll have issues getting anything post R2.5 in through the man-hole, i upgraded mine from R2.5 to R4.1 and had a thermofoil blanket installed with a couple of whirlybirds and vents in the eaves. Hey guys building a new place through a volume builder and just wondering if i should complain to the site supervisor as we just had plasterboard installed. Looks like… 0 11254 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6173 |
