Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Aug 23, 2008 8:00 pm We want to get heating and cooling installed in our house and we've been told that because it's so low to the ground, the heating ducts will need to go through the ceiling. Which is fine, however it looks like evap cooling will be our best option (can't afford ducted cooling) so it means there will be two separate ducts in the ceiling of our bedrooms and living areas.
My husband thinks this will look stupid and wants to put in a couple of splits systems instead of the evap but I don't think they'll be effective enough for the living areas and three bedrooms. Does anyone else have separate heating and cooling ducts in their ceiling? Or have you seen it done? Does it look okay? Any photos would be great too. Thanks! Re: Heating + evap cooling ducts in ceiling 2Aug 23, 2008 9:30 pm Every single display home I've been in has ducted heating and evap cooling and therefor seperate vents. Looks fine to me!
Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Heating + evap cooling ducts in ceiling 3Aug 23, 2008 9:33 pm I hope it doesn't look stupid as we will be having both heating and cooling ducts throughout our whole house! Most if not all displays have it this way. Happy at Home Re: Heating + evap cooling ducts in ceiling 4Aug 23, 2008 9:45 pm If you look at this link (or any display homes pics) you can see the vents in the roof. The round one is for heating and the square one is for cooling. Hope this helps.

i was thinking perhaps you could get a flap installed and use the same ducting for both gas heating and evap cooling? 2nd-Fix | Blog Building with Desyn Homes previously with the insolvent Endeavour Homes Re: Heating + evap cooling ducts in ceiling 8Aug 29, 2008 12:40 pm If you are having the heating with the added on cooling (air con) you can use the same ducts... yes..
BUT, if you are adding the air con after the initial install and you didn't say anything at the time.... All the ducting will need to be replaced as the air con uses larger ducting pipes.... But we are also having the ducted heating and evap cooling at the new house..... I just like it that way... plus too dear for ducted refridge cooling, I think... out of budget... evap is the way to go as they say is 3 cents an hour good for smells in your house, and doesnt recurcilate the air around your house. like our gas heating does, tends to get stuffy if left on for a few days. i went to the building expo in melb and asked the breeze air guy about running evap ducting in the cavity between floors and he said its simply a silly idea because the ducting is too wide and big, i looked at my plans again and ive got several large rooms and no space for a void.. i cant see what the deal would be with having a larger cavity to accomodate for the larger evap ducting.. 2nd-Fix | Blog Building with Desyn Homes previously with the insolvent Endeavour Homes Does anyone have a suggestion for a good hydronic in slab heating speacialist who may be able to help me with an existing system and wether or not it may need a seperator… 0 4899 How do you remove one of these ceiling air con vents?
