Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Aug 25, 2008 5:05 pm Hi guys,
I know this subject gets brought up a lot and everybody has a different opinion about it but im hoping I can get some feedback. We are building the H3nley Ascot 483 and need to make a decision on cooling in the next day or so and we just can not decide between evaporative or refrigerated. Evaporative is what we would prefer to get mainly because of the cost however I am worried that it will not be sufficient and I dont want to end up having to put split systems in down stairs. I would love to hear from anybody who has got evaporative cooling in their double storey (with ducts to the upstairs only), preferably anybody with a H3nley double storey with 5 star energy rating. Is the cool air flowing down the stair case enough to cool the ground floor? Thanks so much. (this is driving me crazy ) Re: Urgent Advice needed on Evap Cooling to double storey 2Aug 29, 2008 12:35 pm If you are building... I would strongly recommend getting cooling ducts down stairs as well... No matter if you go refridgerated or evap....
We have a 2 story with evap vents upstairs only.....We bought established and it didn't have any cooling except for a was air con downstairs in the family room.... As it is, it works well enough except on really hot days, we close all the windows upstairs and open a few in the areas we are in/using and turn it up full boar on the really hot days eg 35 and above... it is not a bad job... but not great... If we were building the house we are in now, I would definitely get downstairs vents and look at getting a dual control system so you can keep the downstairs a little cooler, or else when it comes time to go to bed at night... it is like sleeping in a fridge...... Hope this helps... Think we will go with the refrigerated and dual zoning so we can control each level separately to try and save a bit on the running costs. Re: Urgent Advice needed on Evap Cooling to double storey 4Aug 30, 2008 12:15 pm If you wanted a little cheaper running costs... you could still do the evap cooler, with dual controls..... I had to run points down stairs for my mates house who built with henley because it did'nt work proberly down stairs by the way of the builder's i work for always put evap points down stairs.
