Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jun 09, 2017 8:26 am Hi I have just paid $20,000.00 for my air con we have had it running for 3 weeks The business that installed still can get the house warm. They have been back many times and are starting to shake there heads. I have called Actron and talked with them, during the talk Actron told me the unit will only heat 12 degrees above the temp coming in the return air. Our return air is in a very cold passage 2 degrees only, is this why we can not get good heat out of the unit and if we ran a duct to heat the passage up would this fix my problem. This is my first time on here so hope I have done things right Thanks for your help and time Graham Re: Ducted heated air con 2Jun 10, 2017 9:42 am Never heard of the 12 degree rule ... but if so - as temp increases doesn't 12 degrees setting rise with it ... ie as the warmer air goes out the return air it must be getting warmer ? So long as you haven't got the return air locked off somewhere - ie behind a closed door ? Are we talking a normal split type system - ie ducted and zoned etc ? Condenser outside ? If its set on - say 22 degrees - how cold would the hall be - below 10 ? We've had it in Canberra where the temps fall to minus 6 or so. NEVER had such an issue - we did get the occasional freeze on the condenser tho (ie its outside). BUT - if house set up properly (ducts in all the right spots) - setting it on 22 should have house toasty in 10-20 minutes imo. Re: Ducted heated air con 3Jun 14, 2017 6:36 pm Your problems are with installation and or design, who knows, under sized, poor vent placement, ductwork quality, etc, get another more experienced company to give a opinion on the total design, and unit chosen for your house, they won't tell you even if they know, we botched this design, it's as important as unit choice and vice versa. Re: Ducted heated air con 4Jun 14, 2017 8:38 pm Thank you for the replies its been one mistake after the other all through the house and ceiling space To mention just one problem I went up into the ceiling space to have look at the work and found a T pieces just open blowing hot air into the roof it was never connected, they have also cut the bottom cord of 2 trusses completely cut out left hanging. I have had a certified inspector to look at the work and now have to have both trusses replaced. The trusses sit under solar panels so the repair looks like 5 to 7k in repairs, this is without getting our house heated, its a mess. Re: Ducted heated air con 7Jun 17, 2017 8:16 pm The 12 degrees sounds about right, but if the AC design is at all sensible, the 14 degree air from the ducts should make it's way back to the return air and heat that area, then allowing the outlet temperature to rise further. You shouldn't need a duct right near the return air, but the air just needs to make it's way there, heating up parts of the house as it goes. But in order for the unit to work, it's going to have to heat that passage area up. Re: Ducted heated air con 8Jun 17, 2017 8:18 pm You need to get a professional air conditioning technician in to get the work checked out and fix the issues. Demand payment from the 1st installer or recover cost through civil court. First step will be to contact the installer in writing and give him the opportunity to.fix it. Re: Ducted heated air con 9Jun 17, 2017 11:01 pm It is illegal to alter any structural component of a house without a building permit, and as far as cutting bottom cords of a truss without any engineered design is pure madness.Go see a lawyer and sue these people. If nothing has dropped or sagged yet you may be lucky and the truss may be able to be repaired. As far as replacing it, it would be a nightmare of a job. Re: Ducted heated air con 12Jun 19, 2017 8:33 am Our installation started in May 2017, our first report was the temperature was not warming the house. Work men came and told us the back unit was installed the wrong way around so had to be disconnected, pipes re-soldered and turned around (fan facing out). When the installers told us the unit was finished I climbed up into the roof space to have a look at the work. I found a T-Piece had not been connected and blowing hot air into the roof space. I also discovered 2 Trusses had the bottom cord completely removed. One truss was just left hanging, this has also opened 4 large cracks in the plasterboard and cornices under the removed trusses ( this is now in the hands of a Professional Certifier waiting for instructions, an estimate cost of repair is $7000.00). A few day after the installers had finished we found the heat strength had stopped blowing, the installers came back and reported a ducked had blown off, it was put back on. A few days had passed and another had blown off, it was reattached. During the installation I asked the worker will there be any water running out from the machine onto my paved walk way? He told me no only a little in summer. The unit floods the walk way and I am sure in time will cause damage I was told we can put in a drain and run into a nearby storm water drain. When I questioned this i was told this model has no drain but we can make up a tray underneath, this has been asked many times to be fixed but am told its how the unit works and just left as is, flooding. We have repeatedly advised the company that the the air flow in the guest unit ( Granny flat ) turns on when the unit is turned off, several times a day. This has still not been seen to. We have also advised the company that the duct in bedroom 3 (office) comes on heating the unused room,as it does not show that it is on on the main controller ,we are unable to turn this off. We have continuously advised the company that our hallway is freezing cold all day every day, this still remains unfixed. We have advised that our air vent in the kitchen is so loud we have to talk over the sound, this is still not fixed we have been told its located too close to a T piece. We have advised that the labelling on the control panel lounge/ dining needs to be swapped over, this is still not done. About 3 weeks after the installation we could not get the house to a warm temperature, even with it set on 27 degrees. The installers have been out 7 times and have told us to turn the fan down low, this did not work. We were then told to turn the fan on high, this did not work. We were then told maybe a return air should be installed in the granny flat but this was never done. We have been asked to turn all rooms to 18 degrees and run it all night, but this also does not work. When the company first quoted we were told the Actron Air system would keep our home toasty warm, the unit is big enough to do this and we will love it. Now, the last thing we have been told is the unit will not work when its 0 degrees or less out side and its been 0 degrees and less for weeks now and this is the problem. We have counted the amount of times the sheets of colour-bond iron have been removed and put back on to be 8 times, with the now truss repair coming in the weeks ahead its makes me wonder how this can be now a strong fixing of the iron, as most tech screws are the original screw and the timber holes must be worn out. Our installation has now been ongoing for over 2 months with work men constantly coming to and from the house (this is before the builders start to work on the trusses and repair plasterboard, painting of ceilings) Re: Ducted heated air con 13Aug 16, 2017 1:31 pm Try to get the original air con butchers to get a more experienced installer out to your job, some one from another company who is honest and good, it will end up with a cheaper for them and quicker for you, but make sure you get a detailed plan of how it needs fixing from someone completely not involved, then have the job inspected, tell them it's this way or off to beat etc for months, even years.
