braveheart braveheart Re: heat and glo gas heater 2Aug 16, 2008 10:27 am Hi Braveheart, We have been researching this for the last couple of weeks... You can install after the fact but ask for the provisions to be made where you are thinking of installing it, by the builder.
Things like, do you want it flued out the roof or do you have space directly outside in your wall? Is the wall wide enough for the unit that you want...you only require plasterboard it does not have to be a brick wall.....have you got gas going to that area..... The one we liked was going to end up costing around $8000 including all the bits and pieces.....in the end we have gone for the electric. It does not warm the room like the gas but it does take the chill out of the room and we get the same effect for $1600 and its more for the look for us rather than the heat as we are installing reverse cycle we are going for the corello II in stone...love it. http://www.jetmaster.com.au/files/jm_ne ... _apr08.pdf Re: heat and glo gas heater 3Aug 16, 2008 10:40 am That's a gorgeous fireplace - $1600 - that is cheap!!!
We only wanted one for the look too but $8000 through the builder was too much. What sort of provisions did you make for the electric one? My karma ran over your dogma Re: heat and glo gas heater 4Aug 16, 2008 11:07 am basically, all you will need is a power point.... these models are mainly just hung on a wall..... however, as we are chasing a cleaner look, we are going to flush mount / recess it.....all you will need, will be to have the builder ( or yourself later) build a wooden frame to suit your requirements.... ours will be 1200 wide 500 deep floor to ceiling, with a cut-out to suit the unit then line that wooden frame with gyproc and paint to finish..... the main reason to do it through the builder would be so they can follow the cornices and skirtings around that box section which will save you doing it later...
sorry for being so sdescriptive....hope that helps.... Re: heat and glo gas heater 5Aug 16, 2008 11:17 am oo lovely fires. A shame they don't heat as well as gas ones.
I miss my gas fire from our old house. brrr.. welcome to the south. Beautiful once it warms up. Dh jsut said its going to be 21 today. nice! All week when I've been driving to work it's been 0-3C Re: heat and glo gas heater 7Aug 16, 2008 2:28 pm braveheart Can heat and glo gas heater be installed after handover or does it have to be installed before plaster. Has anyone had any experience/ideas with this? braveheart braveheart, we had our builder make a fireplace provision - it cost an extra $1000 for us. I do not know technically what he has done, but there will be a bit jutting out into our lounge room all plastered up properly and a hole in the middle with a gas outlet for us to have our own gas log heater installed later. (when we can afford it!) Is a heat and glo gas heater like a fake log fireplace? If not, then we might be talking about different things! hope that helps anyway Re: heat and glo gas heater 9Aug 16, 2008 8:02 pm Thanks so much for your responses and ideas.
I did another check with heat and glo and I was told that the gas log heater can be installed after handover - I don't know what the salesperson was talking about yesterday regarding installation before plaster - very confusing! We will be having heat and glo gas log fire I think the 6000 series (the biggest) with horizontal flu, the builder has made provision for the installation after handover. We have the gas connection, electricity, etc. provision insitu. What are you guys planning to have around the fire - stacked stone, natural stone or feature colour? Peter & Ebby braveheart Re: heat and glo gas heater 10Aug 16, 2008 8:52 pm Those gas fires are just awesome, there really is nothing like a real flame. Maybe if I squint for long enough my flame image projected in my electric heater will start to look real.
No really, I am looking forward to having it regardless of it not being a real flame. I think a very muted feature colour, we were thinking of tiling the wall in a large metallic tile but due to there not being many walls downstairs this is one place we can hang one of our paintings or prints. The T.V. will also be sitting next to it so I didn't want anything to busy, hence the feature colour not being to bold. I still can't get my head around the stacked stone inside. I love, love the way it looks but just couldn't do it myself. I suppose the same could be said about tiling a wall in a large metallic tile aswell. What did you have in mind for the surrounding area? Re: heat and glo gas heater 11Aug 16, 2008 10:33 pm braveheart What are you guys planning to have around the fire - stacked stone, natural stone or feature colour? Peter & Ebby we are not sure yet. Maybe go for a feature colour or wallpaper on the jutty-out bit. Re: heat and glo gas heater 12Aug 18, 2008 7:50 pm We have not decided on what to put around the fire, maybe stacked stone or a feature colour. I think it is something that we will decide once we move into the house. The builder is going to plaster around it and paint it antique white (our interior wall colour). We originally ordered a black border but we are now thinking of changing to stainless steel/chrome to make it stand out especially when using a dark feature colour. braveheart Re: heat and glo gas heater 13Aug 18, 2008 8:01 pm Thats sound like a great idea, Antique White is a great colour I used to work with that colour all the time and pretty much any colour would go with it... It always made feature colours look fresh.
