What region is the house in? Re: Old House - Attic Insulation - Asbestos? 5Jan 23, 2017 10:50 pm (oh, and make sure that you're using proper respiratory protection whenever you're up there - even if it's not asbestos, the flame retardants used in some of the cellulose products can also be pretty nasty) What you are looking at is fibrous plaster, true gypsum, it is cast on horizontal beds with fibers included to give strength.
