Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Aug 10, 2008 6:39 pm My first post. Has anyone installed or thinking of installing an electric fireplace. Are they any good? Re: Electric Fireplace 3Aug 10, 2008 7:08 pm Thanks for your reply. Sorry I should have been more specific. We have found the look of the fireplace is something we want to include in our new home but the cost of a flued gas fireplace is approx $8000 for a 2 storey. So we have looked at the metho version and the electric version as they do not need to be flued. Re: Electric Fireplace 5Aug 10, 2008 8:50 pm gweluphome welcome to the forum. Nice to see another Perth person here.
A shame the gas version is o expensive to install since you'd be on natural gas there. Don't forget photos.. I'm sure Paula will be along soon to give the link on "howto"l Re: Electric Fireplace 6Aug 10, 2008 8:52 pm kexkez Don't forget photos.. I'm sure Paula will be along soon to give the link on "howto"l I have already been!!! But I forgot the link Here it is https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=3466 Paula Re: Electric Fireplace 7Aug 11, 2008 3:30 pm Hi guys thanks for your welcome. We will be having reverse cycle air con and we have full height glass following 3 walls facing north into the living area so the heater is going to be very rarely used as our sole heating option. We really did want the look and feel of an open fire, that cosy atmosphere it gives off but we did not want to spend the money on the gas version with all this in mind. If you get a chance to have a look its the Jetmaster Omni Argento. Thanks Re: Electric Fireplace 8Aug 11, 2008 8:56 pm There are decorative "heat focus" fireplaces, the very modernistic looking glass boxes, with an ethanol, or methylated spirits flame inside. They need no flue. If you'll have a large Nothern exposure and the reverse cycle, they may be just the thing you need. Mind you, I have no idea of their prices. I feel I could try and keep him at a safe distance but it only takes 2 seconds for you to look away and theres trouble. So if we can find one that the flame is behind glass we would probably go for it. Re: Electric Fireplace 10Aug 12, 2008 11:08 am It depends in my view on how little your little bloke is. For a toddler, a single controlled, relatively harmless experience would be enough to keep him well away. An older one, keen on experimenting, might be a far greater threat to himself and your house! Have you checked with the suppliers/producers what sort of child proofing they provide ?

The little man will be 2 by the time we move in and although I intend to be very vigilant with him I am not sure how keen I am to let him near accessible metho and flames. I have not asked though if they have specific child proofing though, so that could be my next move. Re: Electric Fireplace 12Aug 12, 2008 4:22 pm If my personal experience with my son and grandsons is worth anything, the best approach is to give a tot a taste of what it means to be scolded/burnt by something in a very controlled and mild way, like just putting his lil hand a tad to close for comfort to a fire, with a proper warning. It won't work with an experimenting 5+ year olds, but for a kid of 2 should be good for a couple of years. I'd be interested in what they tell you about child safety, those fires do look wide open.
Chris My father rode a camel, I drive a car, my son flies in a jetliner, his son will ride a camel.Saudi saying Hi all, My first post, we are building a house and can’t decide the layout of the lounge room. We have a large N/W facing window and are wanting to have a wood slow… 0 13729 No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11589 I would probably render it and then paint it as per your other advice, or gyrpock over the top. 1 3342 |
