Re: refridgerated cooling in porter davis waldorf 48 mixed i 2Feb 12, 2016 8:34 pm One thing to consider is how much of the house you need too keep cool on hot days. If the house is well designed to close off excess rooms, and still maintain return-air circulation, you can get by with a smaller unit than if you try to cool the whole house. You have to also ask yourself if you really want to be going through the amount of electricity that would be needed to run greater cooling capacity than one large system. Another option is to spend the money on better energy efficiency, such as in double-glazed windows, and ensuring summer sunshine is externally shaded. You could also consider having one ducted system, and also an extra one or two split system units. There's a lot of different ways you can use the flexibility of that to your advantage. A split can give individual temperature regulation, and has no need to keep doors open for the return air flow. Then you can have one or the other on, or both to get maximum capacity. Remember also, that nearly all AC operates optimally when you are trying to bring the temperature inside the house to about 10 degrees below the ambient temperature.
