I purchased a Kelvinator KWH26CRE (http://www.kelvinator.com.au/Product?model=KWH26HRE) in-window / wall air con and need to DIY install it into my window. I am a bit lost because there is no mounting kit or brackets, or detailed instructions on how to do this. I know...I know...most people should hire a professional (can't afford it though), but really its just a matter of bolting it in to place in the correct manner and making sure you have an appropriate electrical circuit for it. The unit has a separate outer shell metal housing. Does this image mean that the unit must protrude inside the room by a minimum of 160mm? Seems like a lot. Will that be strong enough? The unit is 60kg but I imagine with balance/gravity it won't actually bear that much weight? Or should I run a big piece of wood over the whole top (bolted into the outer shell) and also screwed into the timber window)? Trouble is the clearance between the outer shell and inner air con shell is very minimal so nothing can protrude more than a few mm. Should I also use some brackets or screw straight into the window sill on the bottom? I can't do anything on either side because I need to put the unit in the centre of the window to allow enough clearance to the vents on the outside, so each side will be filled with plywood or the like. Generally speaking, they are mounted so they protrude 20mm through the drywall if installing through a wall or level with the architrave of the window. Depending on what Kelvinator say if you ring them, maybe install it so it looks best. Yes I think 160mm is quite a lot too? I've always seen window air cons mostly flush with the internal wall and not so far inside. For the bracket are you thinking this should be mounted outside under the unit? The shell is designed to be supported from the bottom like the other pic you posted. Since you need to tilt it slightly as the install diagram shows to get proper condensation drainage, a lot of the weight will be on the back of it. I don't think it has to protrude inside 160mm, I am doing mine so they are flush with the inside wall and only the face protruding. In your case maybe mount it as high as you can get it and pack it up with something to get the height required to support it. If you're handy with a welder you could even weld a piece on to it. Bit odd as I have never seen a unit 160mm inside the room, they are usually close to being flush with the wall. Do you think it would cause any issues having it less than 160mm? I can't see any logical reason except for stability/balancing the weight on the window; as all the vents are on the outside part ? I think it is made of concrete. Should I be using Plastic wall plugs and screws or dynabolts or something? Mind you I rent so I need to possibly remove this and repair later. How do you remove one of these ceiling air con vents?
