We've got an Actron refrigerative air con which is an add on system to the gas heater.
The thing packed up a week ago and they came out and replaced the soft starter and the capacitor. Seemed to be working fine again but then discovered that one of the zones was blowing out hot air. Had to turn off that zone and shut the vent as warm air was seeping into the room. The fan seemed to be down on power and a 'crinkling' noise could be heard through the return vent (in the wall) when the air con was turned on or off.
Well, hubby made a trip into the roof space this afternoon and found several problems.
The zone was blowing hot air because the whole pipe was separated at the zone connection. That was a fairly easy fix as it was just a case of taping it back together.
The bit that's got us stumped is the source of the 'crinkling' noise. When the air con is turned on, the duct that goes from the top of the return duct and into the fan unit just collapses! A 400mm duct collapses to almost flat under suction from the fan.
Anyone that knows anything about these systems, should there be a different type of ducting used for this or is it the same as any other type of ducting?
