Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jun 02, 2015 3:45 pm Here goes, newby with a first question. I couldn't find an answer in my brief trawling. We have a split system AC compressor unit that someone in their wisdom plonked right beside the pool fence making a handy step for the kids to hop the fence. We discovered the fact when the other day three of the little angels were found in the pool area retrieving a ball (not in the pool, it was too cold). It hadn't occurred to us that it was a possible way in, nor our kids, only when a visitor arrived. So would like to move the compressor, ideally directly up the wall above head height where the hoses etc run from anyway. 1. Is it possible to move them easily? It would appear to be a case of lifting it and putting in some brackets. Shortening the hoses etc would possibly not be necessary 2. Can the compressor be higher than the head? That is the bottom of the pump would be above door height the same as the head unit effectively making the top of the compressor higher than the head unit. 3. Assuming there is no disconnection is it legal to move the unit? I don't want to shell out a fortune for an AC dude to rock up and say it can't be done, and conversly will be more than happy to pay for an AC dude to do it right if it is a cheap, straightforward job. Thanks in advance. Re: Split System AC - moving the compressor? 2Jun 02, 2015 10:54 pm Hi My responses. 1. Yes easily enough on to a wall bracket. The copper pipes would then be cut shorter to suit the new location as will the wiring. 2. Yes. You can locate the outdoor unit on top of the roof on a roof bracket if you so chose. 3. No legalities with moving the outdoor unit provided you're licensed to touch wiring and handle refrigerant as you'd essentially be working on something with fixed wiring at line voltage and pipes containing refrigerant under pressure. The safest suggestion is to have a pro pump down the system, disconnecting wiring, disconnect pipework, relocate the outdoor unit, reconnect the pipework and wiring, evacuate the system, recommission operation. hth Re: Split System AC - moving the compressor? 3Jun 03, 2015 9:43 am Hadn't realised that the piping was copper, just assumed that like most other plumbing these days it would be some sort of flexible plastic. Re: Split System AC - moving the compressor? 4Jul 20, 2015 1:21 pm After getting a letter from the council about inspecting the pool fence figured it was time to go ahead with this one. Got an AC bloke in today to do the work, couple of hours and $300 later it's all good, up high out of the way and no longer a claimable object outside the pool fence. $90 of that was for the bracket. you need a fridgie to answer but I would think you vac the whole system then add gas if you have a leak, unless it is new install with the gas already loaded, in that case… 1 3656 Move your linen into laundry and access laundry from your present linen space 1 8007 Hello everyone, I have a question regarding moving a chandelier after it has been mounted.
