Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 May 14, 2015 3:47 pm I decided to make my own topic detailing our quest to find a hydronic radiator system for a yet to be built house in Southern Tasmania. I thought it would be a fairly simple thing, we are from the UK where most houses has central heating. The only difference being I want it wood powered. So where do I start, well Google of course to find someone in Tassie that would do it, then hopefully get the price and design worked out and away we go. so found a few people to email, has to be email since we are in Thailand for a few months then UK for a few, anyway, sent emails, most didn't reply. It then for the ones that did a few back and forth and then now we have a couple of quotes! First quote, people only supply the gear not install. But got some names to contact people who do install. Second quote, $31k but for floor heating! Not the radiators, so sent back email asking for the right quote, which we received, just as well I was sitting down as it was for a tad under $50k! Holy Moley would I like to be on their money, that is an enormous amount of money. Still waiting for a couple more quotes so will update as they come in, if they do. Cheers Re: My quest to find a hydronic radiator system.. 2May 14, 2015 6:50 pm My slab hydronic heating was supplied and installed for $14,500. using heat pumps though not wood boilers. Good luck. I hope you find a cheaper quote:-) My quest to find a hydronic radiator system.. 5May 15, 2015 9:33 pm Have a chat with Pivot Stone. They tend to do wood stove hydronic but may be able to help. They are located in Vic but you never know if you don't ask. We had 12 rads and 2 towel rails installed for about $14k from memory with condensing boiler Re: My quest to find a hydronic radiator system.. 8May 17, 2015 11:20 pm Radiators re very inefficient. Focus more money on insulation and maybe double glazing first, you should then be able to go underfloor heating but be able to downsize it a little. Ensure enough floor height is left for a good 75mm of solid sheet insulation then you can put underfloor in a screed on top. We did this on our self build UK house, it's great ! The house will have double glazing and insulation but in Tasmania I want to make sure we have enough heating. We did look at underfloor but decided it wasn't for us. We are from the UK too, Askern and Sea Palling. Cheers Re: My quest to find a hydronic radiator system.. 10May 24, 2015 12:46 pm Following with interest. We're in Adelaide and I was looking for the same. It just seems it's not common or popular here, so if you can get it it's expensive. I have been thinking of getting the gear myself and running the pipes during construction and fitting after hand over. If you are going to have a fire your mad not to install some form of heat recovery, as so much waste heat goes up the chimney. I was also looking at geothermal heat exchangers as we are on 10 acres and could do long trenches instead of wells. But again the equipment was uncommon here and expensive. In any case keep us posted with your findings. Room is very hard to heat.
