Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Apr 20, 2015 7:02 pm Hi All, Does anyone know if it costs more to install a fireplace on an internal wall or if it is the same as an external wall. We are installing a Jetmaster fire that will be sitting on the floor. The only thing that the builder needs to do is build the box for the unit prior to building our house. We have been quoted nearly 4k extra as we have been told that internal walls are much harder to install on, that if we were building on an external wall it would only be a couple of hundred extra. We know someone using the same builder who is installing the same fireplace on an external wall and they are being charged only 500 extra. Are we getting ripped off or does this makes sense. I would have thought if the unit was suspended I get that the wall would need strengthening but other than that a wall is a wall (but maybe this is why I am not a builder) thanks Lou Re: Fireplace installation 2May 13, 2015 9:04 pm Yeah this sounds like a scam, we had an internal wall for our Lopi Flushwood and didnt pay any extra. All it requires is a zero clearance box installed in a timber frame with fire rated plaster/fibro Have a look at the below links that show the install requirements. http://www.jetmaster.com.au/wp-content/ ... -Specs.pdf I think my blog (in signature) shows pictures of what ours was for framing etc. Good luck Hi all, My first post, we are building a house and can’t decide the layout of the lounge room. We have a large N/W facing window and are wanting to have a wood slow… 0 13724 No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11577 I would probably render it and then paint it as per your other advice, or gyrpock over the top. 1 3329 |
