Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jun 25, 2008 9:11 am I'm trying to find out, without trial and error, how long it would take to heat up an average size hot water cylinder as I plan to turn (one of) mine off to save electricity costs as I only use it weekly.
On the internet I've find one comment that it would take 30-40 mins. How does that sound? Re: 30 minutes to heat hot water cylinder? 4Jun 25, 2008 9:56 pm One thing to bear in mind, is that if it's off-peak, then it may not be 'on' when you turn it on, and you'll have to wait for the next pulse down the line to power up the off-peak box.
There are manual over-ride methods, but none are legal! I can see where you're coming from. I lived in our first house by myself for the first 3 months, and was working night shift at the time. I would have a shower at work after my shift (monday night > sat morning), as I always did, and thus only need the shower on a sunday & monday morning. Last Christmas wife and I bought a house on the NSW South coast which we use on the week-end and on holidays. Hot water cylinder was stuffed. Said to the plumber: " want the same size as in our apartment as it seems to do the job for two reasonably hygenic folk ( me at least)." "nah, nah nah" says plumber "you want a billion litre tank or you'll always be running out of water". Thinking we might need to sell the place one day we agreed. So for two folk who don't have people staying over we have this thumping great hot water cylinder for which Country Energy recently hit me with a bill for $130! When the old cylinder wasn't working I filled a camp shower up with the kettle and it worked wonderfully (for me. Missus was most unimpressed. I find women don't have a sense of adventure!) and this summer I'm thinking off stringing two up on the verandah and showering au naturel ! So, like, who needs a hot water cylinder! the sun master is the solar heating to "warm" the water in the tank the S26 is your hot water system which will heat the water (25 degrees?) so with both turned on you… 2 14072 I want to build a decking to the drawn shape outlined in black.
