Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Apr 03, 2015 3:14 am I am interested to hear any feedback or thoughts from anyone who has installed skirting board heating with Thermaskirt in Victoria. I am thinking of installing it on my build. The product is new in Australia and I am having difficulty finding any online feedback on the performance of it. Re: Thermaskirt - skirting board heating 2Apr 03, 2015 7:32 am Looks VERY labour intensive (which to me means lots of $$$$) and messy. Joins don't look very nice with "covers". I imagine you will still see those joins once totally completed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tabg6ltN9DQ Cheers, Paul (& Lisa) Parkhill 36 by ClarendonHomes in Coomera Retreat H1 Build Thread And Blog Building Blogs List - Go Ahead And Add Yours!! Re: Thermaskirt - skirting board heating 3Apr 04, 2015 12:33 am It looks just like a fancy skirting board convector for hydronic heating. I considered the idea of skirting board convectors but went with the more cost effective radiator panels instead. Unfortunately can't help you any more than that and their website has no technical information to go on. Re: Thermaskirt - skirting board heating 4Apr 05, 2015 4:49 pm I have looked at that product as well and discussed with my builder about it. We gave it a pass for my build for some reasons: - it doesn't work efficiently for my plan as it is an open plan. We know where we will have media stand etc.. and we definitely won't want these skirting board at the back. - although laying out the skirting board is not a hard process, getting the plumbing work to work with it would be a hassle. Also, need to consider the locations for the valves for the skirting boards as they are not like panels where the adjusting valve is just next to it if needed. - might end up with the same cost as going underfloor which would work much better for my plan. With that said, if your plan is not a "mc masion" and everything is rectangular, it's not a bad idea and can be as effective as panels or underfloor. The main advantage over panels is that this skirting really save a lot of space. The advantage of it over underfloor would be the cost when conditions are met. My friend in Uk is using this solution and he says that it works great. But he did say that you will have to plan carefully on where the "real" skirting panels are located as you can't really have every skirt as thermaskirt. Re: Thermaskirt - skirting board heating 5Apr 06, 2015 3:39 pm Thanks Snowing for your feedback. Will take that into consideration. I am not a big fan of underfloor heating (takes too long to heat up) and prefer the ambient heat from hydronic heating. The traditional hydronic heating panels will take up too much space and hence I am leaning towards the skirting heat. This product is not quite tested in the Australian market. Hence, if there is anyone out there who have installed or considering it, would appreciate your thoughts. Re: Thermaskirt - skirting board heating 6Apr 06, 2015 5:28 pm Actually there are different kinds of hydronic underfloor heating now. Some heat up really fast just like panels. Those are the ones I am looking at. I'm not a big fan of in slab heating either, as you have said, it just take too long to heat up and hard to response to sudden change of temperature. You can look at underfloor heating over screed for slab or heat emission plate for suspended flooring. Both are for hydronic heating and cooling in certain configuration. I am thinking of installing it on my build. The product is new in Australia and I am having difficulty finding any online feedback on the performance of it. I had it installed in my house after allot of debate and research into our options, Absolutely love it and glad we took the plunge! We went with the gas boiler, but we were also looking at the option of using a heat pump and think this could be a good option for people without mains gas supply. Showed it to my friends and clients, they are now having it installed. The good thing is that it can be retro fitted reasonably easily where underfloor is harder to retrofit. We have a large amount of floor to ceiling glass in our open plan living/dining/kitchen area giving us no options really for installing panel radiators anyway. We found that the ThermaSkirt still managed to keep the room cozy this last winter. They installed the ThermaSkirt under our kitchen units on the front of the kick board and we can't even tell it is there. We did come across a few negative comments when we were doing our research prior to go ahead with this option but found that most of this was down to incorrect installation. Due to this I would recommend that you look at getting it installed by someone who knows what they are doing. We used ThermaSkirt Australia who use their own installation teams and we were very happy with the outcome and finished product. Let me know if you would like me to post some pics of my house and I'll take a few for you. Personally I prefer the panels option myself and incorporated it into my design but interested to see other types of implementations for maybe future consideration. Thanks for clarifying.
