Re: Ceiling fan position 2Feb 21, 2015 12:02 pm In our master bedrooms it's over the bed I think because it's got the bed under it it 'centers it' and it doesn't look weird viewtopic.php?t=62083 Re: Ceiling fan position 3Feb 21, 2015 1:04 pm Thanks for the reply, that makes sense, good to know that yours is over the bed as that's what we are thinking aswell. Re: Ceiling fan position 5Feb 21, 2015 1:27 pm You mean centred position? Then no it probably won't work efficiently, that's the reason I'm asking as to me it isn't practical in the centre as it does nothing, but over the bed it will actually work. Re: Ceiling fan position 6Feb 21, 2015 2:48 pm It works fine centered over the bed (we have ours on pretty much 24/7 over summer even with the AC on viewtopic.php?t=62083 Re: Ceiling fan position 7Feb 21, 2015 4:17 pm Sorry if there's confusion, I mean centred to the room would be inefficient. That's why I'm thinking offset over the bed but I would hate to see it everyday thinking how out of place it looks. That's the problem we have now in our rental, it's centre to the room and you can't even feel the fan while in bed. Re: Ceiling fan position 8Feb 21, 2015 5:10 pm This is the one in our new bedroom Think about your lighting too. Weve covered up the light in the fan as I personally don't like that look and instead gone with pendants and up lights on the walls viewtopic.php?t=62083 Re: Ceiling fan position 11Feb 21, 2015 11:37 pm That looks good, it doesn't look out of place there at all, we are the same about the lights, definitely do not like the lights in the fan, so we'll be having a fan with separate down lights CC101 I prefer on top of bed - not in the center of the room. Thanks for your input, at least I know it's a thing now Bels Nic and Shell 1 That's the problem we have now in our rental, it's centre to the room and you can't even feel the fan while in bed. If you're only running it on low speed, maybe try medium speed? Damn I wish I thought of that, lol. No we run it at high all the time and can hardly feel it at all. A basic slight breeze on our feet but nothing to cool us down unfortunately. Ceiling fans circulate air and for efficiency, they need to sweep the boundary layer. Having it over a bed isolates it from the boundary layer but bedrooms have big beds and aesthetics invariably dictates position. To compensate for the removal of the boundary layer, have a fan with negative rake. Re: Ceiling fan position 14Feb 24, 2015 10:58 pm Bels Sorry about that and the misunderstanding, my general experience is that people only run the fans on low speed when they're in bed just to circulate some air over them. Haha all good, we definitely have it cranked All the time plus I have a pedestal fan blowing on me, lol. Where we are at now it roasts as it's a town house type duplex this and it gets hot upstairs and there's no AC SaveH2O Nic and Shell 1 Hi, Im interested in people's thoughts and I'm just wondering what people do with ceiling fans whether they stick them in the centre of the room where they look more normal but basically impractical or for something like a master bedroom would you put it towards the wall where your head and body ****** but it would probably look out of place because it's uncentred and same with family room would you stick it over the couch area for practical uses or centred? To be honest I'm not overly concerned about efficiency, it obviously plays a part but basically I want a breeze blowing on me to keep me cool. The new place we are building will have ac so that will help but I don't want it on constantly so hope the fan will do its part. I'll be sure to check out the thread. Cheers Re: Ceiling fan position 15Feb 25, 2015 10:13 am Higher wing tip speeds = more noise. Having negative rake gives more throw and that will be more beneficial and quieter than having a fan operating with higher speed and positive rake. 3in1 Supadiverta. Re: Ceiling fan position 16Jun 01, 2015 8:22 pm Hi, We have got two ceiling fans. One is in our master bedroom, which is right above the bed. (Luckily its in the center) And the other one in the living room which is again in the centre (Not above the couch). I prefer them in the centre mainly because it looks out of place otherwise. No matter where you install it, it's important to make sure that they are fitted properly. I love having ceiling fans as they keep the house cool and help save a lot of money on the energy bills. We installed it after a lot of research on both saftey and energy consumption. Im sharing the latest blog I read on these factors ( http://www.theshockdoctors.ca/blog/gene ... is-summer/ ) Re: Ceiling fan position 17Jun 02, 2015 5:15 pm I installed our bedroom fans in the centre, as that's where the light was. Our play/family/TV room had an AC ventin the centre and two lights, one of which was over the couch, so the fan stayed over the couch for ease of install.
