Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jan 14, 2015 12:53 pm We are having custom plans drawn with raked ceiling in the living area. Our architect' drafty mentioned no ceiling ducts could go in here. My husband phoned someone he knows, air con installer who said we could probably put floor vents in that room.. worse case a split. I feel I rushed this as keen to get to engineers.. we are on a timeframe to get finance before I go on leave for 12 months. I'm not sure about floor vents though (floorboards, bearers and joists so you can get under) in terms of how effective and if they can be used with normal ducting throughout the house? Cost? I can see them being effective for heating but not cooling..Any tips? Trick is to rough in the ducting prior to plaster! Re: ducted air and raked ceilings 4Jan 15, 2015 7:07 am PAB_34 Leksie5000 We are having custom plans drawn with raked ceiling in the living area. Ok thanks.. maybe it was something to do with the space in the roof cavity.. skillion roof? I appreciate the feedback. Our architects drafty was fairly specific in saying ceiling vents wouldn't work for that portion of the ceiling.. wonder why? Have a chat to your drafty and ask them to use trusses for the roof, this allows all the required services through. The Arch/drafty should have done this in the first place if they knew that the house was to have ducted air-conditioning. ----------------------------------------------- http://pab34newdigs.blogspot.com.au/ ----------------------------------------------- Re: ducted air and raked ceilings 6Jan 15, 2015 8:16 am If raking trusses are used then ducted air-conditioning ducting can be installed prior to the ceilings going up. If solid timber beams are used then underfloor ducted airconditioning is an option. The house I live in now has suspended timber floors with insulated air-conditioning ducts below the floor. These ducts need to be installed before the floor boards go down. Below is a photo of my present build showing ducted air-conditioning with raking trusses. She made some amendments for us today when we asked about the ducted so I assume that is what it is. Re: ducted air and raked ceilings 8Jan 16, 2015 3:10 pm We now have it such we can have ducted in the roof. Air con company states as not double story does not need to be done at rough in.. we have a split level but only one room on the split which is above the garage. Hi all, sorting out the ducted air con for a 350sqm double story house. Does this placement sound reasonable to you? Also, I plan to have 6 zones I think.
