Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jan 01, 2015 12:50 pm Hello. I'm converting a metal garage into a studio that needs to be reasonably cool in Qld summer. I have no delusions that I won't need aircon as well, but would like to achieve as much as possible with just insulation. A general search for info has lead me to the conclusion that both sarking and insulation batts are recommended. I'll be installing plasterboard for internal walls, so I've battened with timber attached to the steel frame, which leaves clearance of about three or four inches from the external metal sheeting to the inside edge of the battens. QUESTION: Which option is recommended: A) Install the sarking first (ensuring a gap between external sheeting and sarking), then sandwich the insulation batts between the sarking and the plasterboard; or... B) Install batts first, then install sarking between batts and plasterboard? If B) is viable, do I still need to leave a gap between batts and sarking? Building Standards; Getting It Right!
