Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Dec 29, 2014 11:46 pm Hi All I'm getting two ceiling fan/light combos installed tomorrow. They are to go in the place of an existing downlights. In lounge, there is one faceplate with one switch. I'm assuming this faceplate is just replaced with the new switch/faceplate in fan box which then has two stitches (one for light, one for fan). Seems easy. However, will it require additional cabling? Just to run from fan to wall switch given the lighting cable will already be there (from the existing downlight) to service the light on the fan? In bedroom, one faceplate with two switches for two separate downlights. Does this mean if one downlight is replaced with fan/light combo, the sparkly needs to cut another hole to install the fan faceplate (one switch for light, one for fan), and then replace the old faceplate with one that has just one switch for the other existing downlight? Again, will that just require cabling from the fan to the switch for the fan mechanism given cable for a light is already in ceiling to service downlight? This is in Perth and any indication of price per fan to install (or rough range) would be appreciated . cheers Re: Ceiling Fan Wiring / Installation 2Dec 30, 2014 9:01 am Beazley77 I'm getting two ceiling fan/light combos installed tomorrow. If you have remote control for the fans, then simply the same wiring for the fan as the light was there. If you have the fan speed control on the wall, then you need a single SDI wire to go from the wall plate to the fan. I had the extra SDI cable put in, only to find that the remote control makes that extra wire unused. If you are using the fan speed control on the wall, then all your sparky does is replace the wall plate to allow for the light switch and the fan control, as well as chase in the extra wire for the fan.
