Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Nov 10, 2014 6:43 am Hi We are building a single story home on bearers and joists of 260sqm (including outdoor deck) appx. The build is customer and our tender is higher than we would like. Air con is quoted as - Daikon 14.5 kW (6 hp) inverter reverse cycle with 2 zones, common and 8 outlets, $11,500. Also an upgrade to 3 phase, which is only $350. We are looking what could come out of contract to do at a later stage. Would it be much cheaper to get an air con person in to do something similar later? What is there to consider with this. I guess even if it's not it means we won't have the cost now. Thanks Leksie. Re: Air con after handover 2Nov 10, 2014 7:21 am Ducting may be a lot easier to do now rather than later. Positioning of the aircon unit itself may be easier too. Running the electrical cables to the unit would probably need to be done at the framing stage. Why don't you contact an AC company and ask them for their advice and/or quote ? Stewie Re: Air con after handover 3Nov 10, 2014 4:59 pm Thanks for your reply. Yes I have contacted the local Daikin installer. I really wasn't sure how easy/complicated after handover for single level construction (bearers and joists) and if it would be worth it. I wasn't sure on people's experiences of doing it afterwards. I assume of course the builder will not let us arrange our own air con to be installed during construction? Probably the same ppl without their margin. Re: Air con after handover 6Nov 22, 2014 8:21 am We are getting aircon installed after handover. It's scheduled for Dec 20. I'll let you know if it was a complete hassle or it was fine. Cheaper after handover - we are getting a better brand and system for the same price as what the builder quoted. --- Re: Air con after handover 8Nov 27, 2014 8:48 pm Ask your SS if you have one. As ours told us we could have had it installed through our own AC company during the build. We didn't though as head office told us we couldn't even put the unit on the roof during the build and our SS only told us this in our PCI.It's a little harder for us now as we have a double story but lucky the hubby is a scaffolder How do you remove one of these ceiling air con vents? And is it possible to disconnect the duct joined to the vent from inside the house, without going into the roof cavity? 0 4025 Hi all, sorting out the ducted air con for a 350sqm double story house.
