Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Oct 30, 2014 3:37 pm I have had a interior gas fireplace for 3 years which cost approx $7K from a reputable store. Since the first year, the matt black paint finish inside the fireplace has flaked/ peeled every winter, and as each year goes by the paint seems to peel even quicker, i.e, this winter it began to peel after three uses. I have had the company respray once (fumes flooded the house) and I waited months for the work to be done. They are only willing to respray one more time at their cost and say it is a maintenance issue for us following final respray. For research I spoke with their opposition, also a large reputable store and they say their black painted fireplaces do not peel. No where in the manual or on the website did it say, annual maintenance of paint finish is required for this fireplace. I don't believe a reasonable person would expect this to be normal, especially not when it is new and used for approx 3 months per year. It was a new model so I am worried we got a lemon or they just have not managed to get the product finish right and are trying to palm off the problem onto customers. There is no head office for the brand, its just the individual stores which I believe are franchises so I feel stuck. Can anyone out there please give me advice on what is normal for internal gas fireplaces? What I could do next. Thanks so much in advance.
