Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Aug 24, 2014 12:12 am Hello... I'm hoping people here who are Perthies might be able to give me some insight on what hot water systems they would recommend? I'm looking at evacuated tube system as we have trees which cover the back half of our house and from what I can see.. it looks like it might be a little more effective in winter, which is something else I need. Something like this: http://www.reece.com.au/plumbing/products/1318236 Has anyone else looked at these products? We need to replace the excisting HWS - we were up on the roof last week cleaning gutters and discovered one of the solar panels is full of water (no cracks in the glass). Kind of getting tired of my house dramas Re: Hot Water System 2Aug 24, 2014 10:32 am Back when we first got out ET system, the installer told us of a demonstration unit down south somewhere that actually had the tubes facing south !!... it still provided hot water from them. Reece claimed to me that this Thermann systems were supposedly Apricus systems ! I really don't know the truth to this, but I couldn't understand why Apricus would do such a thing. One the good things about ET systems is that if you smash a tube, you do not lose any water, and your system continues to work. It is also said that ET systems are less likely to be damaged by hail due to the cylindrical nature of the tubes, having the hail glance off the rounded edges, versus the flat plates copping full impact of the hail. FWIW, we're going to put a Apricus 315 L, 30 tube, mid mount electric boost system for our new home build, and we're going to put a timer on to the boost circuit so it will only electric boost at preset times if it needs boosting at all. Re: Hot Water System 3Aug 24, 2014 11:41 am We have a Thermann system with electric backup and have no problems whatsoever with it. In fact when it was first installed when forgot to get the power from the switchboard wired in because we wanted timers and hadn't made up our mind, and a family of four was using it for 6 days before we realised we had no backup. We have a timer setup for the colder months and only have it set to come on if needed for a a total of 2 hours per day. (5am -6am, 5pm - 6pm). So far have never run out of hot water. Yes they are also made by Apricus using the Thermann name for Reece. The Manifold on the roof is slightly different. The Apricus rep I spoke to about this system actually told me that this manifold was a better design than the Apricus and in time Apricus will change to that design. Whatever brand of solar system you get ensure it is a tube system. they are far more efficient than a flood panel system. People still have the idea that they are more susceptible to hail than flat plat collectors are, but at our old place we've had some severe hailstorms, and never had a tube damaged. I believe that's due to the hail rarely able to hit the tube surface square on because of the tube shape. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: Hot Water System 5Aug 24, 2014 11:59 pm Thanks people - Perth had a huge hailstorm in 2010 and there was alot of damage to houses and cars, Hubby and I were made homeless due to the flood damage in our flat. So thinking about the hailstones.. good call. Glad to hear that Thermann are Apricus re-badged!
