Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jun 17, 2014 12:19 am Hi I am looking for air con professionals who can give me advice on installing a refrigerated air con solution for a home I am building. The home is double storey with 190 sq.m of ground floor and 16o sq,m of 1st floor. It is a flat roof home built on a concrete slab with 300mm posi's. My preference is to have ducted solution for both upstairs and downstairs, however for every air con salesman who comes, I am being given different solutions. SO I would like some options, or some names of companies in Melbourne who can look at my home and provide sound advice and a professional opinon. My home is almost at lock-up. Thanks. Re: Refrigerated Air Con solution for Melbourne home 2Jun 18, 2014 11:22 am Flat roof will always limit your possibilities. There does seem to be much room for the ducts let alone the units. This would indicate the easiest option is to have split systems. Other than that have you considered changing the roof to pitched? Re: Refrigerated Air Con solution for Melbourne home 3Jun 18, 2014 3:22 pm I would've had these details nailed down before I even poured the slab. It is a bit late now and as BStar says you may have limited options. Good luck though, I hope you find a good solution. Stewie Re: Refrigerated Air Con solution for Melbourne home 4Jun 18, 2014 9:37 pm Look at a multihead split system. One outdoor unit then you can control each unit individually. Only issue is that's a damn big house but you will need smaller units downstairs that upstairs so they may be able to balance it. Re: Refrigerated Air Con solution for Melbourne home 5Jul 12, 2014 10:36 pm I highly recommend talking to Coldflow Heating & Cooling, I can not recommend them any higher. http://www.coldflow.net.au/ They have been very helpful to myself so far (yet to install) and a family member used them to install refrigerated cooling. Salesmen aren't pushy, but very knowledgable and helpful, he was defiantly there to help me get what I wanted & needed. Re: Refrigerated Air Con solution for Melbourne home 6Jul 14, 2014 12:17 pm After discussing what I wanted with a number of AC providers, I am able to get a ducted air con solution using a slimline unit. I will have to drop the ceiling in the pantry in order to house the fan coil, and have some bulkheads downstairs to hide the duct work. However I can get what I want which is a single unit for downstairs living. Upstairs, I am happy to go for a multiheads split system, as this is where all the bedrooms are. P.S. - This was another problem caused by the architect, as I had highlited my concerns with air-con, however he said that the downstream builder would be able to find a solution. I just love it when clowns like this just pass off your concerns and let someone else try and fix up their lack of attention to detail. Thanks for taking the time to post your solution to this problem. It might help others faced with the same scenario. Great solution We went with a multi head split system for our bedrooms and downstairs. Main living area, kitchen, meals and theatre has a ducted unit. I think having the aircon heads in the bedrooms is a better solution as it allows for better temperature control in each bedroom. Our home is also large so having two separate units (ducted and multi heads) made much more sense for us.
