Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 May 28, 2008 9:52 am hi everyone,
we are building with PD and thinking of upgrading our hot water to Rinnai INFINITY Hot Water System. We have 4 bathrooms, a powder room, a kitchen and laundry where hot water will be needed. Does anyone have any experience with the Rinnai Infinity or similar type heating systems? How well they work when water is needed at multiple outlets at the same time? Are there any better reasonably priced systems out there that can service hot water to multiple locations at the same time? Any ideas/suggestions/comments about your experiences are welcome. Thanks Built PD Beaumont 35 - One year down in the new house.. still so much to do.. Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 2May 28, 2008 10:08 am MKR, we installed a Rinnai Infinity in our last place when we renovated. We loved it!!!!!!!!!
But with 4 bathrooms, make sure you get the most appropriate unit for your useage....oh and make sure it's fairly centrally located. We did not have any issues with it at all.....very good units... Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 3May 28, 2008 10:15 am Our new, but established home, has an eight year old equivalent.....only been in for three weeks but can't complain about the heat delivery.
It is more "instant" on the wall that it is on (kitchen, bathroom, laundry), takes some time to get warm water across to the ensuite, but I judge it to be no less than the standard HWS we had in the other place. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 4May 28, 2008 10:15 am We have the Infinity in our current place and we will be getting it for the new place - love love love love love it ...
We had it installed in our current place over 7yrs ago and it is fabulous... ok its only a small house and there is just 2 of us but we have had no issues with it since we installed it... I can't imagine being without it actually, it is so convenient (we have temperature controls in the kitchen and in the bathroom so its easy to change temperatures depending on what we are doing) Fiona Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 6May 28, 2008 11:59 am Talinsmum (we have temperature controls in the kitchen and in the bathroom so its easy to change temperatures depending on what we are doing) Which is also good with kiddie safety - if that is of interest - you can turn the temperature down in the bathroom to minimise the risk of scalding. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 7May 28, 2008 1:07 pm Hi MKR,
We have it at my parents house, we absoloutley love it!!! Just a q with PD, we are hoping to build with them and i was wondering (if you dont mind me asking) how much extra its going to cost you to upgrade and by having the Rinnai INFINITY Hot Water System & do you still meet the 5 star energy rating? Cheers, Sam Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 8May 28, 2008 1:17 pm hi Sam,
the quote we have for upgrade is $1400, i am still in the process of getting more details off my CSR as in exactly what model of rinnai infinity, how many water controllers and all are included in the price they have quoted. as for energy rating, I don't think this will have any negative impact on it. as you might be aware, all new houses need to meet the 5 star criteria, PD will not recommend/install it if it did not meet the requirements. our house was meeting the requirements with the standard hot water system (160 ltr tank), with the inclusion of this one, i have not been told otherwise yet so i believe it still meets the criteria and i personally think this is a better system anyways. cheers Built PD Beaumont 35 - One year down in the new house.. still so much to do.. Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 10May 28, 2008 3:40 pm We are building a home also with four bathrooms. At the recent Sydney Home Show we asked at the Rinnai stand about what we should do - here in Newcastle you can only have either gas or solar hot water so our choice is a gas system and preferably an Infinity type system.
The only thing they said to us was that we would need at least two systems - a larger and possibly another smaller system. Due to the fact that it will need to service the bathrooms plus laundry plus kitchen - the one system would be inadequate. We are also going with at least two controllers - depending on how they will be set-up. Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 11May 28, 2008 4:45 pm We also have one, plus controllers in each bathroom etc. If you’re going down this path with controllers get flickmixers installed especially in showers and over baths, otherwise you’ll end up only using the hot tap, also much easier to get the right temp just right.
There are two things you should know, which caught us unawares. If you are going to have controllers, you need to manually switch them back on after a power failure, otherwise cold water only… No hot water during a power failure, but where there’s a will there’s a way. I have a UPS on my computer that remains charged all the time, I knock this off and plug in the Infinity and whamo hot water! (Obviously one needs to be cautious with regards to the elements and using these devices outdoors) Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 12May 28, 2008 4:52 pm kyton,
do you believe they recommended two systems thinking you'll be using all four washrooms at the same time along with the laundry and kitchen?? kiwi, apologies for my ignorance but doesn't this system work with gas? Built PD Beaumont 35 - One year down in the new house.. still so much to do.. Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 13May 28, 2008 4:57 pm MKR - no we specifically explained that it will be quite a while before we would probably find ourselves using more then one bathroom at any one time (our kids are only babies at present and so will be showering with us). But how they explained it was that if you had one person in the shower / one person in the kitchen plus the washing machine going then you will lose water pressure. So more then likely we will have three bathrooms on one system then the fourth bathroom / laundry / kitchen on another. Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 14May 28, 2008 5:00 pm We have one in the new place.
It is placed in the middle of the house. We have temp controls. Problem is its a long house so the kids bathroom doesnt take long to get hot water (close to unit), but the ensuite and kitchen take forever!! Have to waste a lot of water before it get to temp, and when washing up in the kitchen you need hot water in the sink!! DH is enquiring if you can get some sort of booster tank that holds hot water and delivers it until the hot water comes through...does anyone know if there is such a thing? Paula Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 15May 28, 2008 5:01 pm MKR kiwi, apologies for my ignorance but doesn't this system work with gas? Yes the heating is gas the igniter is electric, so are the controllers which must be on for the unit to operate. Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 16May 28, 2008 5:04 pm I think the issue is that because you don't have a store of hot water (as it's instant) the smarts in the box won't work with out power, you can actually get specific battery backups for Rinnai's http://www.foreverhotwater.com/pdf/Battery%20Backup.pdf
Probably not much different to kiwi's UPS just probably marketed to be more expensive.... mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Rinnai Infinity hot water system 17May 28, 2008 5:12 pm Paula We have one in the new place. We are having the smart start system as well. After 4 years - we're in! the sun master is the solar heating to "warm" the water in the tank the S26 is your hot water system which will heat the water (25 degrees?) so with both turned on you… 2 14048 Hi, doing a new build in VIC (going all electric) and wondering what is the best electric hot water system these days? What is there to consider? It's not clear to me… 0 42 0 15692 |
