Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Aug 13, 2015 6:27 am We are building 39 square 2 storey house. We have 4 zones with one controller. Our builder has told us the control pad has to be upstairs and that an additional control pad downstairs will cost $685. We expect to only use a/c upstairs occasionally as there are ceiling fans up there so want to have control pad downstairs. At work yesterday I did a bit of asking around and most people I spoke to had a/c controller upstairs and none downstairs. What's the norm? 11/11/13- dep paid 4/4/14- settlement Feb '15- DA app 6/8/15- CC site works begin 19/8/15- Formwork 25/8/15- slab 3/9/15- elect. appt 13/10/15 - frame started 19/10- bricks started 31/10 - roof done Re: Position of ducted control pad? 3Aug 13, 2015 8:25 am +1 to the above comment. Also make sure they have temp sensors upstairs and down stairs for the different zones. I know a lot of friends with double story homes that say one level of the house is always hotter/colder depending where there sensor was installed. Re: Position of ducted control pad? 4Aug 13, 2015 10:11 am In many cases the the temperature sensor is in the control panel, and this may be why they want it in a specific location. Normally it is placed somewhere not too far from the return air duct, as that is the most likely location to be in the air path from whichever zones are turned on. Given that the return air is likely upstairs if there's only one, then that would be why they want the controller upstairs. The problem with a downstairs controller is that if you just have upstairs zones on, then the unit may not be able to measure the temperature at all, and hence not run at the right power level. The alternative may be an extra temperature sensor, or some units may have a temperature sensor in the return air path which may be able to be used for some zoning settings. Your explanations make sense. 11/11/13- dep paid 4/4/14- settlement Feb '15- DA app 6/8/15- CC site works begin 19/8/15- Formwork 25/8/15- slab 3/9/15- elect. appt 13/10/15 - frame started 19/10- bricks started 31/10 - roof done Re: Position of ducted control pad? 6Aug 13, 2015 8:10 pm Hi Caff, Just some food for thought, some controllers have the ability to have a remote sensor wired to the controller and used for control which would allow you to locate the controller anywhere you would like. hth Re: Position of ducted control pad? 7Aug 13, 2015 10:21 pm Thanks Bels- will ask about that. 11/11/13- dep paid 4/4/14- settlement Feb '15- DA app 6/8/15- CC site works begin 19/8/15- Formwork 25/8/15- slab 3/9/15- elect. appt 13/10/15 - frame started 19/10- bricks started 31/10 - roof done Hi group, have some damage to the door frame and skirting board.
