Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Mar 30, 2014 5:01 am Hi,
We're in WA and having a Samsung 14kw reverse cycle aircon unit installed in our new build. We are possibly looking at upgrading the ducting to either the 'Gold' or 'Green' duct and wanted to know if this is actually worthwhile. It says in the blurb that the 'Gold' has thermal rating of R1.2 & the 'Green' R1.5. It's supposed to make the unit more efficient in maintaining constant air temp and contributes to reducing the running costs of the unit. Any advice??? Also is it worthwhile to upgrade the controller? We have been offered an upgrade to the Air Touch Zone control for $435 Thanks Re: Evaporative Aircon Upgrades - Advice 3Mar 30, 2014 10:54 pm Althom Is it evaporative OR reverse cycle. Your post is confusing. It states in my post it's reverse cycle, what's confusing? Re: Evaporative Aircon Upgrades - Advice 4Mar 30, 2014 11:44 pm its confusing because your title says Evaporative Aircon Upgrades. One might assume that you are speaking of upgrading the evaporative unit. Then the content of your post goes on to say you have reverse cycle and you are actually asking about ducting and controller upgrades. Maybe you should change your subject title. For your actual question why not ring a samsung reverse cycle installer and ask them. Haha, well noticed, thanks for pointing it out The upgrades are offered by my installer, that's why I'm asking if anyone can offer the advice as to whether it's worth the money or not for the upgrades Re: Reverse Cycle Aircon Upgrades - Advice 6Mar 31, 2014 8:45 am Sorry I cannot offer any assistance on the upgrades as I am having Actron. Maybe read what the controller does versus what you are slated to get now and then decide whether its worth having. Upgrading the ducting would seem a good idea if it is reasonably priced. The insulating difference does not appear to be a large amount 1.2 - 1.5. Maybe ring another aircon mob or ring Samsung direct and ask. Re: Reverse Cycle Aircon Upgrades - Advice 7May 26, 2014 11:12 pm Maybe a little late but the difference in Gold 1.2 and Green 1.5 is not worth the extra outlay unless you plan to stay in the house for 10 years or more. The extra cost savings (in terms of efficiency) won't be realised until after that time period has passed.
