Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Mar 02, 2014 2:03 pm can anyone help please I am getting very different answers of what is feasable and what is not from different retailers. I am looking for a gas log heater to fit in existing fireplace which has an 8 metre rise to top of chimmney. have been advised a rinnai saphire log fire would work by one agent but advised against by another. (the area is 47sm with timber floors, and many windows without curtains (this is kitchen/dining) high ceilings, old house.) the rest of the house has very efficient gas underfloor ducted heating, however to extent to this area would be very difficult due to low flooring and sandstone foundations any advise would be extremely grateful hobart, Re: gas log heating any help most gratefull 2Mar 03, 2014 8:01 am Any decent installer ( not the showroom salesman ) should be able to have a look and see if it is possible or not. Only someone experienced who can come and have a look at your house can give you an informed answer. The main concern is whether the new GLF will fit inside your old fireplace and be able to be ducted out through the chimney without major work. Knowing where you are located is a big help too ( put it in your signature like I've done ). Stewie Re: gas log heating any help most gratefull 3Mar 03, 2014 9:00 am thanks for that. salesman did visit the home, said the rinnai saphire would fit. is this the best, most efficient heater and are there any cons agaist the heater as other salesman said this was not the best.(this one did not visit home) ps am in hobart. hobart, Re: gas log heating any help most gratefull 4Mar 03, 2014 10:11 am If you are looking at a gas log fire as opposed to a gas heater then you will spend quite a bit, however they look fantastic and are a lot better than the old ones. I know nothing about the Rinnai model. The best feature of the Real Flame and Heat n' Glo models is that they draw air into the room that gets heated then expel waste fumes out through the chimney - no more noxious gases in your room. Jetmaster is another well regarded brand. http://www.jetmaster.com.au/ Some threads on the same topic viewtopic.php?f=20&t=69302 viewtopic.php?f=20&t=42172 Or just do a search on the forums for gas log fires etc. Stewie Re: gas log heating any help most gratefull 5Mar 03, 2014 10:23 am We have the Rinnai Sapphire and are very happy with it. None of us suffer from asthma so the fact that it doesn't have a balanced flue didn't worry us. We have it in the open plan living area which is about 50 square metres and find it heats this space very quickly and the heat travels as far as our bedroom which is behind the living area. So in winter this is basically the only heating we use and we don't need to use it much. It is rarely on for more than an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening and I am home all day. But we are in Melbourne not Tasmania. DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Hi, I have an old fence/barrier made of treated pine logs bolted to plates and these are bolted to very large metal posts/girders.
