Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Feb 10, 2014 9:16 pm I'm after a bit of advice after a very unpleasant experience today. Here is the story (i'll try and make it brief): * About 4 months ago, insulation installers came and installed insulation. * They did a very average job, didn't put all the insulation down in some places and trod where they shouldn't. * Then, last week we had a builder and plasterer in to assess some things around the house and they noticed the ceiling was sagging (insulation had gone above this). We pointed out we don't know how it happened but that we had noticed since we'd been in the house (only lived there 6 months) that nails had come through bits of the ceiling and we didn't know why. * They asked if we had been walking up there (we haven't at all) and that's when we realised it would have been the guys that put the insulation in. * So we email them and ask could this be the case, could they come round and take a look. It was a nicely written email. * We got a call from the owner (one of the ones that installed it) swearing and shouting and not letting my poor other half get a word in edgeways. It was absolutely awful. * We then looked up if there were reviews on him and one website said he goes round threatening people with a hockey stick! So... what do we do? Anything? Nothing? The ceiling needs a decent fix. But also, how can these guys treat a customer so badly? We invited him over to talk it out. He hung up. Can anyone give any advice? My other half is so lovely and I just hate to sit back and watch people treat him like this. Thank you for any help! We didn't notice sagging ceiling till it was pointed out afterwards by the builder... Re: Aggressive Insulation Installer... 4Feb 11, 2014 7:08 am From my experience it is almost always difficult to get anything fixed or compensation once the contractor is paid and is gone. It is not impossible but it will cost money to chase them and it could be more than you get back. Swearing and abuse is very poor show and should not be happening but you won't get compensation just because someone swears at you. You could complain to Consumer Affairs and see where it takes you Foremost Building Expert in Australia, assisting with building problems/disputes, building stage inspections,pre-contract review advice for peace of mind 200 blogs http://www.buildingexpert.net.au/blog Re: Aggressive Insulation Installer... 5Feb 11, 2014 8:38 am In relation to the installer - everyone has one but everyone is not one.... Re: Aggressive Insulation Installer... 6Feb 11, 2014 12:03 pm I'd walk away. There's no way you'll be able to prove they were the ones that did the damage and even if somehow you could there'd be a protracted and painful legal wrangle by the sounds of it. I think you'll just have to absorb the costs involved unfortunately. Certainly wouldn't pursue it legally or anything as not only is it not worth the cost but not worth risking him turning up with his hockey stick. Ill look into consumer affairs. He just shouldn't be able to get away with doing a job like this and then react the way he did when we had a complaint. Anyway, thank you for the replies guys, much appreciated Re: Aggressive Insulation Installer... 9Aug 19, 2014 3:13 pm Its an industry that seems to attract some less than ethical operators (of course there are some fantastic companies out there too). We've had similar issues, as have others in our area, with big promises and underhand tactics (installing lower grade insulation, not cutting out for lights, leaving areas unfinished and generally being unprofessional). Shame when a few people damage the reputation of an industry for everyone. Looks like… 0 11254 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6173 |
