Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Feb 02, 2014 7:26 pm Hello All, I am getting Evap cooling as part of our house building as a promo. Was wondering if I can replace it with Refrigerated cooling post handover? Would they get rid of the unit on the roof and would they be able to tie it into our existing ducts in the celling? It will be a Brivis Promina P65 Unit. Re: Evap Cooling and Refrig 2Feb 08, 2014 1:50 pm melfordgurl Hello All, I am getting Evap cooling as part of our house building as a promo. Hi we just got add on cooling to a brivis heater and they upsized the ducts to suit not sure what they would do with the evap system Does your evap system run the same ducts as heater ? If not can you get out of getting the evap system and just go with add on cooling after handover ? I must say very happy with the refrigerated system so far ( its only been a week ) Site Cut 8/04/12 Slab 13/04/12 Frame 18/04/12 Roof 07/05/12 Lock Up 06/06/12 Keys 30/08/12 Re: Evap Cooling and Refrig 3Feb 08, 2014 2:23 pm Last time I built when I asked for an advertised inclusion to be removed I got a discount on the overall price. If it was me I would ask for a price reduction for deleting the evaporative cooling and use the saving to get increased size ducts so you are ready for the refrigerated cooling. From memory they were only offering 6k back for a 12k install, yet to upgrade to the version we wanted it was only a 7k upgrade so we went that way instead. You may even need to look at upgrading your heating. From my research and speaking to a number of Brivis dealers they advised that anything 3 star and below in Brivis heating won't cope or is not compatible with the add on cooling. The ducts are very specific to the add on cooling as well. We upgraded our Brivis heating to 5 star with the builder in preparation of getting the add on cooling after handover. This also includes upgrading the platform in the roof to cater for the unit, upgrading the ducts as they need to be bigger and the coils. You might want to visit a Brivis dealer with your electrical plan to see what can be done...just so you know you don't have a heating unit that is not compatible with add on cooling. Absolutely, but as the OP's question was relating to using evaporative cooling ductwork for reverse cycle after handover I thought it was pertinent. Cooling duct!s need to be bigger than heating ducts so for an add on system you are looking at a duct upgrade. If this is the case, then why is it in the display homes, they have a single duct in the ceiling that is a round shape and yet they have both heating and refrig cooling? My question is, since I have the duct heating, can I then, after handover, take off the evap and put on a refrig without making changes to the ducts in the ceiling? They will be putting two sets of ducts in each room, one for heating and one for evap cooling (bigger ducts). Delete the evaporative cooling completely. 2. Arrange for larger ducts for the Ducted Heating by the builder and an additional electrical point. 3. Following handover arrange for an air conditioning supplier to install a unit to be added to the heating unit. You will then have a single duct in most rooms which can supply both hot and cold air. (In larger rooms you may still need more than one duct but both will be blowing either hot or cold air) The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Generally you won't get much back when you delete the aircon. have you asked them for a cost to upgrade to full aircon as opposed to having the ducting only?
