Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Feb 01, 2014 10:15 am I know that wood heaters are likely not on *your* mind right now, but the builder is asking for a specification so we can place wall switches. This is for a smallish empty-nest home in the Adelaide Hills, 158 sqm total, with the open plan living-kitchen-dining area totaling about 64sqm. There is plenty of 'free' wood on the property, but I'd still like to buy a stove that burns as efficiently as possible. Can anyone point me to an article that rates different wood heaters sold in Australia? Something like the US website wiseheat.com, that gives efficiency ratings as well as user's personal reviews. I'd rather buy Australian made if I can, but really want something that employs clean burning technology like afterburners or catalytic converters. In the US we had a little Avalon insert installed in our Victorian fireplace, and its amazing --no more drafts, can't smell the woodsmoke, and when you need it to it really cranks out the heat. But hate to buy something that isn't routinely sold in Aus in case there is a problem. Thanks in advance, guys-- Chris Chris On the threshold of retirement... and trying to check my assumptions at the door Re: Help! Wood heater reviews/efficiency comparisons? 2Feb 01, 2014 10:41 am Sure - I can help. www.homeheat.com.au It has all the ratings and burn efficiency of all models in Aus. Wood heater reviews/efficiency comparisons? 3Feb 02, 2014 11:06 am Thanks for your post. I had visited that site several times, but only with your assurances that the info I needed really was there did I persist long enough to find it under the 'Certified Wood Heaters' tab. D'oh! Liked the musings on your blog, too. You know, we (I) bought our current stove insert for our current brick fireplace because I wanted the ambiance of a wood fire. But it actually provides a significant amount of heat on weekends and during winter vacation. And even in our urban area we've only bought wood twice in over 15 years --we 'salvaged' probably two-thirds of what we have burned. My father in law calls wood "bottled sunshine." Wood heater reviews/efficiency comparisons? 5Feb 09, 2014 11:42 am Not wood, but wood pellets, or wheat or olive pits. Info on 2 brands. They appear very "clean", minimal waste. Site details running costs, fuel availability etc. Several other companies selling the same. http://www.cheapheat.com.au Re: Help! Wood heater reviews/efficiency comparisons? 6Mar 12, 2014 3:58 pm I spent a bit of time looking for high efficient heaters (have a look at my blog) and we ended up going a Lopi Flush Hybrid heater which i think is around 70% efficient. Unfortunately it seems the more expensive the heater the better the efficiency as well. Chazelle make awesome heaters but super pricy and require a full masonry surround. I have heard bad things about Stovax heaters not producing much heat and having issues with failings in welds and firebricks. I remember reading that Pivot make good stuff http://www.pivotstove.com.au/catalogue/wood Might be worth chatting to a few companies and finding out some more info go upvc window frames ensure insulation under colorbond. not just sarking, lighter color roof also not sure if you have seen this viewtopic.php?t=5823 last couple of pages… 4 110227 We are looking to do a KDR with fairhaven homes, Have seen plenty of good reviews about them pre construction and plenty of negative reviews about them during contruction… 0 18017 Hi starting the process of looking around for Dual Occ builders.
