Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jan 16, 2014 1:06 pm We are looking at some air conditioning options for our place. We have an air conditioner in the loungeroom, and 2 ceiling fans in the lounge, and ceiling fans in the 3 bedrooms. We have a Brivis ducted air conditioning system. What would be the costs to have this installed. We already have the ducts... Would we have to replace the ducted heating unit or can it just be an add on. Re: add on air conditioner to ducted heating? 2Jan 16, 2014 1:55 pm I believe ... and I could be wrong ... that your issue is more likely to be the size of your existing ducting, air cond ducting needs to be larger than heating duct. I am pretty sure an add-on unit should be available - easiest way in to look in the Brivis website. Re: add on air conditioner to ducted heating? 3Jan 16, 2014 4:47 pm Agape, you are right. If you have a standard/lower model Brivis ducted heating unit, the duct size is too small for the add on cooling. I upgraded my Brivis unit to the 5 star model so I can get the add on cooling later. I was quoted from Brivis on the basis that I had suitable heating - it was $7095 to run 7 outlets with network zoning which included all electrical and plumbing work. The model is DINXV13Z7 for the Brivis Ice cooling. It isn't on their website or online yet because it a newer model but it's 5 star. I found Brivis to be fantastic when getting a quote. We are doing it ourselves, the Builder is putting the heating unit in and we are doing the add-on. The Coil has cost $1K and the Outdoor Unit is about $5K. We are building a double storey and it is approx 35sq, by memory we have 14 ducts Re: add on air conditioner to ducted heating? 6Jan 17, 2014 6:03 pm Sorry the $7k is for the add on cooling. I assume a large cost of installation are installing the ducts... Had a guy out, he said the space under the house is not sufficient, apparently you need 500mm for the bigger ducts... so he gave me a quote for 3 Lennox head units and one main power unit outside, to 3 rooms, $6,500. Does that sound reasonable? Re: add on air conditioner to ducted heating? 8Jan 24, 2014 12:48 pm I just got a price for brivis ice add on cooling $9000 for the 15kw. 4 zones. upgrade the ducts ( bigger ) replace return grill and add 2 extra ducts this is for the new inverter model What do you guys think of the price? I thought this was the only one in their range that had inverter technology. what was the model number they quoted. It would be great if they did have an add on cooler that had inverter technology. It would be even greater. Re: add on air conditioner to ducted heating? 10Jan 24, 2014 2:02 pm B STAR hi coolbri is it possible that they quoted you on the reverse cycle unit. Hi B STAR The new range of add on coolers have inverter technology ( 18 and 22kw systems dont ) The model number they quoted me on is the 15kw system DONSC15Z7 What do you think of the price? I spent around 12K for a whole new system (not the inverter type) around 5 years back. Its a shame you cant use the same ducts as this would save you a couple of thousand. to put things in prospective it will cost 4 K fo the cooling units on there own. Plus the install plus the new duct work. Re: add on air conditioner to ducted heating? 12Jan 24, 2014 4:22 pm I was quoted $7095 for the 13kw Add on Brivis cooling - inverter for 2 zones. I already upgraded the ducts within the heating portion so I think your price is good. The model I have quoted is DINXV13-7.
