Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 May 13, 2008 11:50 am The house has two zones - A and B - and it seems that the ducts in Zone B (the bedrooms) don't produce as much air as Zone A (all other living areas).
Does anyone know if bedroom zones are typically set-up to produce less air?! Possibly because the rooms aren't as big?! When you stand under an outlet in Zone A you can clearly feel the warm air coming out as it's quite strong. Yet, in the bedrooms you can hardly feel the air and the heat it produces is only slightly noticeable. It didn't seem to be like this last year. Although, to be honest, I don't really remember last year. Anyone else in this same situation? Btw, it's a brivis model. [sneakersss] Re: Lack of air coming out of ducted heating vent 2May 13, 2008 12:16 pm Missy, can you switch between zones and just run the bedrooms as a test or do they always run at the same time?
Usually the central ducting is larger if they are closer to the main unit and they reduce in diameter as they lead out to the bedrooms etc. If the living areas have the larger ductwork then they should get more airflow through them. Could it be your zone motor-if you have one? Could it have partially closed the duct? Get someone to go up there to have a quick look and listen to it while you switch zones as supposedly you are able to hear the zone motor opening and closing the duct? Alternatively call the contractor who did the install or Brivis service, cause it will still be under warranty? Good Luck.... Re: Lack of air coming out of ducted heating vent 3May 13, 2008 12:21 pm When you say two zones, you have zone motors installed so you can open and shut each on individually?
First off I’d check you return air filter for cleaning, secondly I’d check the outlets in question and adjust the flap to increase airflow, bearing in mind that doing this will reduce airflow at the other points. It’s basically a balancing act to get the right amount of air at each outlet. Having zone motors can improve this because you can shut off one of the zones to improve the airflow in the other. Re: Lack of air coming out of ducted heating vent 4May 13, 2008 12:21 pm I did test it this morning. I put just the bedroom zone on and the air was still less than the living zone. And we hardly ever have both zones on at the same time - only in the morning while we're getting ready for work.
I'll send the bf up into the roof space later tonight before I call the service people. Hehe And yes, I believe the warranty is for 3 years. I've never been up to the roof space so I don't know what's there and if there is such a thing as zone motors. But yes, when I say two zones I mean that we can operate each zone individually. kiwi056 First off I’d check you return air filter for cleaning, secondly I’d check the outlets in question and adjust the flap to increase airflow, bearing in mind that doing this will reduce airflow at the other points. Return air filter has been checked and all flaps are always fully open. As Phoenix has pointed out, smaller ducts are generally used to feed the bedrooms. Could also be squashed ducting restricting air flow. Good luck, especially on mornings like this morning. There's my lesson learnt today! Hehe kiwi056 As Phoenix has pointed out, smaller ducts are generally used to feed the bedrooms. Could also be squashed ducting restricting air flow. Good luck, especially on mornings like this morning. Oh, forgot to mention that all our ducts have been upgraded to the larger ones to accommodate for future refrigerated aircon. And it was a chilly one this morning! I think I should just call the brivis people. [sneakersss] Re: Lack of air coming out of ducted heating vent 9May 13, 2008 1:10 pm Thanks, phoenix and kiwi. I've just called and we have a service booked in for four weeks time. I've been told to contact the installer first as if the fault is outside of the warranty list they (brivis) are going to charge us a callout fee.
I'll update when I find out what's wrong. [sneakersss] Re: Lack of air coming out of ducted heating vent 10May 30, 2008 4:13 pm Just to update...
A guy came out to service the heater yesterday. Turns out some flap/closure type thingy on Zone B wasn't working properly - it wasn't opening and closing fully. So when it did open it was only very slight hence the lack of air. But he replaced it and I woke up this morning feeling all nice and toasty! I'm happy again. Except now the fan on my oven isn't rotating... [sneakersss] Re: Lack of air coming out of ducted heating vent 12May 30, 2008 4:29 pm vanderlay glad it's fixed for you!!! what took them sooooooo long???! You know, I don't actually know. I think they're just busy and their process is that you call the main service centre and then they put you through the system and the appropriate technician in your area will service you. We were originally booked in for June 9 but then i got a call back as they made a mistake - it's Queens Bday holiday - but their computer system didn't tell them that. lol So, they moved it to yesterday. Apparently I was one of the lucky ones as others are having to wait a few more weeks. I called them back after they called me with the new appointment time as I didn't think I was able to make it. They then went through their system and the first available was July 9!!!! Lucky I was able to make my appointment yesterday. Hehe [sneakersss] Re: Lack of air coming out of ducted heating vent 13May 30, 2008 4:37 pm Yeah, glad its all fixed Missy...nothing like being cold!!!!
Oh well if the oven's not working you'll have to get the boyfriend to keep taking you out for dinner??? LOL...worth a try???? Re: Lack of air coming out of ducted heating vent 14May 30, 2008 4:41 pm **Phoenix** Yeah, glad its all fixed Missy...nothing like being cold!!!! Oh well if the oven's not working you'll have to get the boyfriend to keep taking you out for dinner??? LOL...worth a try???? LOL Actually, the oven IS working. The fan isn't. So, it's no longer a fan-forced oven. It's just...a forced oven?! Hehe [sneakersss] Hi All!
