The bigger the size the more external surfaces which means more heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer. Might be you have more windows. The bigger the total area the more heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer. Different house orientation can also mean more heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer. The difference in orientation can change the thermal efficiency by a full star! Although it won't be huge the typical pressure pump isn't very efficient (see: http://www.anewhouse.com.au/2013/05/rai ... mp-issues/ .) The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Also since your a/c required 3 phase, it's likely to be a high kw/h consumption too. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: Has anyone noticed a dramatic increase in electricity us 24Jan 17, 2014 9:12 pm Casa2 Lex, I have a couple of questions for you. Is your current hot water heater gas or electric? In your previous house, was your hot water heater gas or electric? Funny you should ask that, since we had installed a brand new gas 330 l heater in the old house some years before we demolished it, and the new house has exactly the same size and model of the (obviously gas) heater ... even in pretty much exactly the same location in terms of aspect (if anything, the heater now gets even more sun exposure!). (We should have saved the old heater hahahah, we were really impressed with it and thought 'why change it when it's working so well for us!') So, like I said - no change there. I really do think it's the d*a*m*n oven, I didn't realise there are different sizes and I think mine could be on a tiny bit bigger capacity inside (which I don't even think I need! but hey). Being summer, I've been barely using it, so I'm keen to see if there will be any reasonable difference! My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Has anyone noticed a dramatic increase in electricity us 25Jan 17, 2014 9:20 pm MR2 time to go around checking appliance stand-by usage.. Re. other appliances - I am pretty sure that we still have the same ols fridge, same old washer (OK, we replaced it just recently, so it couldn't "steal" power before it was installed), ... same iron (!?) (barely ever used ) ... but we do have water tank pump (which we didn't have before) and also 2 automatic garage door openers (one for each door)! So again - the big difference is the oven - gas before, electric now. Dunno!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Also since your a/c required 3 phase, it's likely to be a high kw/h consumption too. I wouldn't quite say that "you've gone from a house on mains water to one on tank water" because we ONLY use the water tank for toilets!!! It can also be used to water the garden, but I haven't used it for that in at least one year (the horrible pressure!!! and the eased water restrictions). (Our house is still on the mains, of course.) I don't know how much the pump uses those several times a day for a minute or less each time, but I really doubt it would contribute so much to the usage, but who knows! In fact, it might be in use even when I think it's not!??!?! but I think I'd be able to hear it like every other time .... Re. A/C, unless a house with 3ph power consumes more kWh even just to deliver that 3ph power to the house (or something like that!??! like how it is all set up in the meter box or whatever ), it's not the AC, I have removed it from my repeated comparison as it's on separate meter so it's easy and clear, and I still have a whopping difference. I was hoping that there would be someone out there whose habits also didn't change with moving into a new house, so we could compare .... but most normal people do change their lives a little bit with a nice new house, and not just continue living inside newer walls like us My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ...
