We are in the process of building an extension and I'm wondering if it will naturally warm enough by the sun or if heating is essential. Re: underfloor heating 2Nov 06, 2013 7:38 am A lot depends on the orientation of your house for solar access for your floor, the size of your windows, and which rooms are going to benefit from this etc On an overcast day in winter your floor is going to be as cold as hell but that will also depend on where you live and whether you have alternative heating or not. We are in the suburbs of Adelaide and just not sure if we will regret not putting provisions in. Re: underfloor heating 4Nov 07, 2013 4:49 am Clairey_qB Yeh, true. The slab will be North/East facing, with the Easterly windows designed to warm the floor naturally. East windows don't do much to warm a floor in Winter. The sun rises in the North East so you will only get an hour or so of benefit before the angle is too shallow. You will lose more heat out of the windows over the remainder of the day than you gain in the early part of the morning Be better if you can use the North for windows where you will get 6 or 7 hours.
