Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Sep 22, 2013 6:15 pm Hi. Just moved into a new home. Our double garage faces west and so gets the afternoon sun, and the door heats up and the garage is very warm past 3pm. Looking for suggestions as to how to ventilate and keep cool as because our NBN equipment + car is in there I'm concerned as to how they are going to cope in the summer! Re: Garage very hot in evening 2Sep 22, 2013 7:11 pm hi gavinha, my block of land is west facing, I will going to face same problem once finish construction complete, looking forward more suggestions Re: Garage very hot in evening 3Sep 22, 2013 7:42 pm What sort of venting have you got in the garage? Is there a roof top air vent that can release some of the hot air? Windows you can open? Also consider shading solutions to the western walls? Espaliered trees or similar? I assume the car will cope well - the NBN equipment probably less so - a lot of that stuff has a requirement of being below X temp (and humidity levels too) - this is something you might be able to hold the electrician to 'fixing' as a fault - because it shouldn't be installed in a place that cannot realitically be deemed safe/sensible operating environment for it. (So a bathroom is out too ) Re: Garage very hot in evening 4Sep 22, 2013 8:58 pm I've had the same problem My solution, for a sectional panel door, was to get some foil board ( http://www.foilboard-insulation.com.au/) and stick it to inside of the door panels, reflective side facing the inside of the garage. Won't work for a roller door. This was very effective in keeping the summer heat out, and keeping it warmer in winter. As the foil board weight very little the remote opener motor easily lifted the extra weight. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Garage very hot in evening 9Sep 23, 2013 7:07 am snuck What sort of venting have you got in the garage? Is there a roof top air vent that can release some of the hot air? Windows you can open? We have a door at the back into the back yard which may be the only option. No insulation in the roof for the garage was included by Carlisle. And no whirlybirds that I can see. Which companies in Melbourne could help with this? The Reflecta GDI looks like it would do the job insulation wise but not sure how to install. Re: Garage very hot in evening 11Sep 23, 2013 1:13 pm JB1 I have an Ecogaragedoor insulated door. Not sure how effective it is. I would say the car will be ok, but what is the roof / ceiling made of? What do you mean ecogarage door? Re: Garage very hot in evening 13Sep 24, 2013 11:43 pm If it's tiled, you have the option to install some whirlybirds and ceiling vents, that should drop the heat quite a bit. It's insulated with foam between the aluminium. Re: Garage very hot in evening 14Sep 26, 2013 8:15 am ceiling insulation is important, keep the sun off the door, and whirlybirds or venting of some kind. luck Re: Garage very hot in evening 16Oct 05, 2013 7:53 am We are also looking for solution for west facing door. Did u see these kits in bunnings for sectional panels both in single and double. Not too expensive. We moved in late last summer. Cost looks cheaper, I have to think about that Regards NBN, not get hot in the afternoon ! Re: Garage very hot in evening 19Jan 16, 2014 12:16 pm bashworth is onto the right idea, your garage door is a huge area letting in all the heat, insulate it. Will do 10x what any whirlybird will do. I insulated my garage door with roofing blanket and the temperature drop was huge, cost me all of $80. However any insulation will add weight to your door requiring the springs to be re tensioned otherwise will wear out the lifter. We don't have windows or a rear door so we open the rollerdoor about a foot to let some air flow through which works a treat and cools the house down too ...
