Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Aug 19, 2013 1:22 pm Hi there We are building through Plantation Homes and one their inclusions is a Daikin 9.8 kw single phase inverter Reverse Cycle ducted Air Conditioning including 32 amp circuit to suit inverter air conditioner (10 round outlets, 2 zones). Our documentation says it is a Day/Night A/C. At our tender appointment recently the Consultant told us that we cannot run the 2 zones at the same time - we basically have a day zone and a night zone and they can't be run together. This doesn't sound right and I have been trying to find out if this is the case. She was quite certain this was correct and suggested that to get around this we would need to go upgrade to 5 zones at an extra $1400. Any advice would be greatly received! Re: Daikin 9.8kw Ducted A/C with Day/Night 2Aug 20, 2013 1:17 pm I would assume this is because the unit is undersized for your house. I would be speaking to a Aircon installer and I can almost guarantee you they would recommend a larger system. A lot of companies do not include aircon as a standard, this appears to be a way of including it as a inclusion (a marketing ploy), but at the cheapest possible price. Re: Daikin 9.8kw Ducted A/C with Day/Night 3Aug 22, 2013 10:37 pm Hi A 10kw system (approximate size) is only going to have sufficent air volume to do 6-7 outlets approximate without going down the route of calculating air flow, etc. My suggestion is that if you had the choice, swap to a commerical system (eg. Temperzone) as you'll be able to get an indoor unit sized up to provide more air flow. They are also available with inverter driven compressors so are reasonably efficient as well. Re: Daikin 9.8kw Ducted A/C with Day/Night 4Aug 24, 2013 6:05 am hi, +1 on the under sizing. What size area are you try to cool/heat ? My advise is to be careful with using the builder to install air con that they don't provide you with misleading advice. My thoughts are they are trying to avoid installing 3 phase power which would increase costs dramatically. However you can get up to 14kw units in a different brand that will do single phase. Daikens are the best, there is no doubt but to be honest if I had a choice between using a daiken and I can only use certain zones in day and night or a less reputable brand I can use all zones in. I would probably go a less reputable brand (which would still be good). Panasonics are ok or a Mitsubishi Heavy industries both good and pretty affordable. Not sure if they offered you the option but also splits maybe a good option.
