I have been researching this but cannot seem to find a straight answer. I want to be able to heat only the living area by day and the sleeping area by night and be able to heat all at once if I choose. Can this be done? How many zone controllers would I need? Would I need two thermostats? If I am heating all areas, can I run them at different temperatures? The zone control basically operates a valve that seals off airflow to the two areas. You can have just one active, or both. Most people will have a single thermostat and return air duct, probably in the living area. This means that if you only heat the area without the sensor it might be a bit unreliable so you might be better off with the second thermostat. Few gas ducted heating systems allow two return air ducts though. Some systems let you run the different zones at different temperatures, but they do this by adjusting the valves to route air around. AdvantageAir makes such a system although for gas heating I felt it was too expensive and complex to justify the investment. Zone 3=Main bathroom. Zone 4=Minor bedrooms, lounge and study. l have a gaslog fire in TV room that l use when nights are a bit chilly. Works well for our needs Re: Zoned ducted heating 4Aug 09, 2013 11:07 am As Lurgen mentions one of the big issues with ducted heating is return air. If the area you are heating is in another room to the return air ducting the system will not be effective if a connecting door is shut. Ducted is a cheap overall heating system bot is you want selected heating it might be best to either look at hydronic heating or get some alternative heating. We have a couple of small electrical heaters on time switches that run for around 1/2 hour in the morning to take the chill off the bedroom. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
