Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Aug 04, 2013 6:54 pm Hi all, I'm in the process of renovating my 1940's brick veneer house. And I'd like to install sarking and wall batts. How would I go about install sarking to an old house without taking all the bricks down? Plasterboard and electrical wiring has been completely removed already. Do I fit the batts, sarking then the plasterboard on top? As I wouldn't be able to slip the sarkingt behind the studs without removing all the brackets that hold the bricks to the studs. Thanks, Matt Re: How do I install sarking to an old house? 2Aug 07, 2013 9:22 am You won't be able to fit sarking to your walls in the usual way which as you allude to - on the cavity side of the timber frame. R 2.5 Batts between the timber studs then foil backed plasterboard would be your best option or batten the walls 25mm for an air space then breather foil ( R 1.5 ) and plasterboard. There are water repellant pump-in insulation products that fill the cavity. The manufacturers claim that is does not lead to moisture bridging the cavity either but I haven't used this type of product. What type of R-value are you trying to achieve for your outside walls ?
