Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jul 27, 2013 5:32 pm I'm looking to install a hot water system and would like some advice! We are a large family of 7 people. We often have family and friends to stay from interstate so our hot water needs are high. We have two 'zones' in our house for kitchen/guest bathroom/ laundry with the 2nd "zone" having 3 bathrooms at the other end of the house. We live in a rural area on water tanks and have bottled LPG, which costs a bomb, as does our electricity! I am leaning towards a split system solar with an LPG boost on it. I have also considered running two solar systems... All opinions welcome Re: Hot Water System 2Aug 22, 2013 3:00 pm Are you planning to have gas in the house for any other reasons? If not I'd really think twice about it - especially as it's bottled. We're spending the $$$ to put in an induction cooktop and forgoing gas entirely (except for gas in bottles in the BBQ). (We are rural too) Have you seen the thermal pumps? I'm not sure if they'd be good for you but that's what our builder offers as standard (rather than solar systems) and while we weren't a fan they are a reasonable alternative for maybe one of your systems? With seven showers a day and visitors you want the best you can - two solar systems is probably about right especially if someone can duck down to the guest bathroom at some stage if you are on a grey day. That and water saving shower heads and timers and flush the loo or whatever if the kids are in too long Re: Hot Water System 3Aug 22, 2013 11:07 pm Stiebel Eltron Heat Pump. http://www.stiebel.com.au/heat-pumps/pr ... wk-300-ah/ Made in Germany. You get the same rebate for these as you do for solar. 300 litre tank which is normally heated by the heat pump, but if you get low on hot water the element kicks in and heats just the top 100 litres. Re: Hot Water System 4Sep 18, 2013 11:04 pm I would go for solar, with either electric assist (if those are still allowed?) or gas. At our main residence we have the original solar panels (poorly positioned beneath trees) over 20 years old with a gravity feed system. When the electric heater failed thanks to the solar we had perfectly hot water for the week it took to custom make a replacement tank. The environmentalist in me wants to say how wonderful the heat pumps are, however we have one at our beach house and the compressor turning on at 12am is just noisy enough to keep you awake, so if you go this path keep it away from bedrooms. I'm not sure if there are quieter ones available, however this one was quite expensive. the sun master is the solar heating to "warm" the water in the tank the S26 is your hot water system which will heat the water (25 degrees?) so with both turned on you… 2 14049 I’d go heat pump, efficient and you can have a large storage tank so you don’t run out. If the house is big it can take a while for the water to run hot. I was lucky… 1 482 I want to build a decking to the drawn shape outlined in black. The problem is how close can I build to the gas hot water unit? Will I be able to build around it and be… 0 20231 |
