Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jul 06, 2013 7:51 pm Hi guys, My builder supply me 3 AC provisions that are hidden in build-in-robe. As I understand, they are AC ducting for ground floor. My question is: Does these provisions include ducting already? If I plan to install reversed AC after handover, what do I need do during construction? Do i need arrange a AC contractor to lay the ductwork for provisions and ground levle firstly? SO confuse now. Thanks Re: what is the AC provision for 2 storey home? 2Jul 19, 2013 4:56 pm We are getting the builder to install the ducting as part of the build and will be installing the aircond unit post handover. It will be very difficult to install ducting post handover (even if you have the cavity for it) so it may be worthwhile talking to your builder for them to lay the ducting. Some things to keep in mind though: * You need to ensure that you have also done the power provisions for the aircond unit, there will be 2 units (1 outside the home and 1 in the roof cavity). If you need 3 phase power, consider having it done by the builder * You will need to sort out your zoning design with the builder and the aircond installer. That is, its not just a simple task of laying some ducts, the ducts will branch out differently based on your zone design so you will need to have this agreed with whoever is laying the ducting. * If you are installing the air cond unit post handover, bear in mind the size of the unit that goes in the roof cavity. The unit needs to hang off the roof truss so you need to ensure that the truss can support the weight of the unit. Additionally, how do you get the unit into the roof cavity once the house has been completed? Can it fit through the manhole cover? Do you perhaps need agreement from the builder for the unit to be installed during framing instead? * Who is responsible for installing the vents and return air vent? Will it be the builder or the air cond installer? You will need to have this clarified as well. * Where does the burden of responsibility lie if there is an issue with the aircond once it has been installed? If there is insufficient cooling/heating, is the fault with who laid the ducting or is the fault with the aircond unit?
