The one we had years ago was up in the roof space, I don't remember ever noticing any exhaust pipe, but then it wasn't making any noise. Does the pipe wobble much? Is it possible it has been installed a bit sloppy-like and just needs some tightening to stop rattling around or something like that? Anyhoo, I hope someone who knows about these things can help you. The ones in the roof have a chimney. As for the OP where is your heater. In the roof, under the house or outside? Generally a whistling sound.
