Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 May 07, 2013 7:58 am We are experiencing our first cold weather in our newly built house. Our builder messed up on our insulation order and put less in the walls than we had planned. They compensated by putting more in the ceiling for us. I just wondered how our house is comparing to other new builds? This morning it was 10 degrees outside and 20 degrees inside by our bifold doors, or 22 degrees in the centre of our house away from all windows and doors. We were quite happy with this. Is it comparable to other well insulated properties? I hope to be able to contribute to this in a more meaningful way in the future as I will see if I can catch the morning temperature before the central heating comes on and provide a inside night temp, overnight outside temp and morning inside temp. We have a Hebel house and it is SO warm on these cold nights, I'm still in my (above knee, t-shirt length sleeves) work dress and ugg boots and I'm comfortable. It's bloody cold outside though. I even had the fan on last night! As soon as I buy a thermometer I will update... 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: How warm is your house? 5May 08, 2013 8:36 pm DTB, we didn't have any heating in the house the night before, but I didn't record the temp. Wll see what it is tonight before I go to bed and report back tomorrow with updated values. Ha Stella bella, you sound like my husband, he needs the fan on every night! I'm sat here in short sleeves now and very toasty, but it is 19 degrees outside at the moment, so no surprise there. Sorry stewie, I was going to put the r values in but couldn't remember them offhand. Yes, it is brick veneer and house is double storey. Walls are R1.5 (should have been 2) and roof is 2.5 plus a 1.5 overlay (should have been 3, so they added the additional 1.5 to compensate). This is in addition to the sarking - 1.5 anticon insulation blanket. Thanks. Been a tad chilly lately with the O/night temp being down to 0 / minus 1 and when we got up in the morning the house was still around the 16/17 depending where you were. Was 19 when we went to bed. Living in an esky seems to be good. The central heating turns off at 11.30pm at which time it was 23 degrees inside. The overnight minimum was -3 and the inside temperature at 5am was 19 degrees. You can have all the insulation etc in the world - but the right aspect is the key IMO. Re: How warm is your house? 12May 30, 2013 8:14 pm Hi nina marie, Our house has the following: 2.0 insulation in the external walls; which is also sound reducing stuff that house wrap stuff that goes on the frame 2.0 insulation in the internal walls; which is also sound reducing stuff; EDIT, every single wall throughout the house has wall insulation 4.0 insulation in the ceiling insulated sarking under the colourbond roof; is all sarking insulated?? all windows are double glazed; and boy do we have lot, pride and place goes to the 5 2400 x 2100 running along the dining/family garage door to house is solid core and has a drop down thing to stop the breeze the air extractors in the toilets and bathrooms have a back draft flap on them to stop air coming into the house I thinks that covers it? We have 100% tile floor throughout the house. Cheers, Darth Teddy Bear Thanks mate. Yeah good points!
