Hi all,
I am at the insulation stage of my reno. exciting times, especially how long winded the process has been for us (long story). Seeing some of the photos posted of other renos, really does motivate me
So i have been reading alot of forums and spoken to so "experts" and i am getting mixed responses. and its really hard to know who to believe - hence this post. Im hoping others experiences will help.
forums i am coming across seem to always mention the use of soundscreeen. then i speak to insulation providers and they have mentioned that soundscreen can be substituted with products that are just as good - with one guy evening saying a standard bulk wall batt only provides about 5 decibles less than the soundscreen batts. So i really dont know if the price justifies such a small benefit (mind you, i really dont knwo how loud 5 db is)
so im really confused.
would you reccomend i spend that extra 1k and use soundscreen? or use standard bulk batts and use a thicker plaster board (or even a firecheck baord)? ...or something else???
This info might help, i was/am planning to use the soundscreen for the first floor (as timber flooring will be used for upstairs - ontop of chipboard) and for the upstairs ceiling (as it is a pitched roof and the truss leg is about 1500mm - i..e there is about 1500mm gap between the colourbond roof and where the plasterboard would be)
thankyou inadvance for your help
