Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Apr 08, 2013 9:18 am Hello, I have an old BV house with no insulation in the walls. One of the bed rooms is in an area that was cut out of sandstone and has a wall 2m high on 1 side and 1m high on the other side. Consequently it is dark and damp. An idea to retrofit insulation in those walls was to put some HD foam sheets on the outside - to keep the moisture out of the bricks and give some insulation value as well. Any thoughts to how effective this would be ? cheers Re: Insulation for BV 2Apr 09, 2013 8:26 am It would certainly be effective at keeping heat in/out but would offer nothing to your damp problem. What you need to do is install decent drainage that gets rid of any excess surface water that seeps in from the surrounding rock. Didnt really expect it to fix the damp but most of the problem is splashing and creating a waterfall during very heavy rain... I have ag pipe with blue metal but its underneath the ground level. The problem atm is surface water in heavy downpours... I have paid $6k on drainage a few years ago and they only did half a job in hindsight. Slowly doing bits myself and its getting better all the time but far from satisfied. cheers Hey guys building a new place through a volume builder and just wondering if i should complain to the site supervisor as we just had plasterboard installed. Looks like… 0 11273 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6191 |
